Thank you in advance, University of Alabama is my dream school and i hope to apply early.
I thought you needed a 3.5 for the presidential scholarship. I don’t think they use WGPA. You should check to be sure.
it says on there scholarship website they take the highest gpa on your transcript. I have spoken with alabama admissions and they indicated that they will take it as a 3.51.
Ok then you are good. You will defiantly get in. You would at least get the 2/3 tuition scholarship. If you raise your ACT to a 32 then you could full tuition.
thank you very much for your input i appreciate it!
Almost positive they will use your weighted GPA as long as it is on your transcript.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you get that ACT to 32 so you get the full Presidential. It’s easier said than done. It’s worth it to prep like crazy these last weeks of the summer. Have you taken a prep course? Do you have the red book? Have you taken SAT to see if you do better on that one? (not that you have to - just a thought)
Best wishes - UA is a wonderful campus!
@SouthFloridaMom9 i have taken a prep course via Huntington which raise my act from a 28 to my current 31 and will continue to prep in hopes of the elusive 32. Do you think I will be accepted though??
You will be accepted. At this point its just about getting the presidential scholarship.
Yes, UA has one of the fastest and easiest application processes. Barring something very unusual (disciplinary problem?) you will get in almost automatically.
The real trick is to get the Presidential. If you nab that, and know that you want UA, you’ll be done with applications very early senior year. I love that about UA. You can put in a housing deposit super early and have that nailed down too, and have a great room pick time when late spring rolls around.
Will your parents pay for UA if you don’t get Presidential (are they still doing the 2/3’s scholarship?)?
no disciplinary problems here haha. yes I have the money saved to be able to afford the extra 1/3 + board, it would just be nice to keep that money for the future.
and yes the 2/3 scholarship is still in effect
There’s no harm in filling out the application TODAY! You are almost certain to gain acceptance, and the earlier you get your info to them, the better. Send the 31 ACT and if you do better later, they will accept the higher score. In any case, get your name in front of them.
Good luck!
@STEM2017 if i do get the 32 will i be able to resend my new score?
^Yes, as long as you get the new score to them before the December deadline.
EDIT: From the UA website…If you would like to be considered for scholarships, complete the University of Alabama application for scholarships at mybama.ua.edu by December 15.
Yes, you can send updated ACT scores through 12/15 as mentioned above by @STEM2017 (always double-check the UA admissions page for this coming year).
IMHO, UA is very user friendly in terms of application, email, housing, Degree Works - the works! They are also generous with accepting college credits that you earn in high school.
It seems that UA has gotten popular with Illinois students - we had two in our small group when we visited.
@STEM2017 awesome i did not know that i will definitely do so. Another question, i would like to apply now but do not have access to my transcript for at least another month, should i still apply?
@SouthFloridaMom9 Yes it is very popular in Illinois it seems as if many of my peers have jumped on the bandwagon. i have been going down to tuscaloosa since i was 7 for a couple games each year my uncles really got me into it.
You can apply now and your school will send your transcripts when school starts back up. As long as you have all your paperwork in before that deadline you will be fine.
Transcript: You are in the same boat as many other students. Don’t worry. Many guidance departments have the summer off. Fill out the application today and inform your school to send an official transcript as soon as possible. UA won’t be sending out acceptances until after Labor Day so you have time.
@rolltide17 Please keep us posted of your progress!
