Chance me with amazing stats but bad essays?

I applied Early Action to College of Engineering and admittedly did not put that much effort as I should have into the supplement. For reference, I submitted a 36 ACT, 800s in Math 2 and Physics, have a 4.27 weighted GPA (school is weird and has 4.4 unweighted and highest GPA possible is ~4.6), taking and took as many APs as possible in my school (6 in senior year and took Calc 3 at Stony Brook University), ECs are generic but have won multiple awards in them. Demographics, from Asian male from NY. I’d still say my common app is 8/10, but will the rest of my application be able to make up for 5/10 or worse supplements?

Gotta ask why? Why did you not put in the effort to such an amazing school that is so difficult to get into? Kids with perfect scores and amazing resume’s are wigged out…why wouldn’t you put your best foot forward…just curious? :-B

Admittedly, I was in a rut where all I thought about was my top choice. I didn’t put much thought or care into any other school besides it and it was obviously a mistake that came to fruition after my deferral. As my top 3 choice, I definitely should’ve put more effort into Michigan.

EA round, probably deferred or rejected if a nonchalant attitude is obvious in your essays, and you don’t seem genuinely interested.

If you get deferred (the general consensus is highly qualified applicants often get rejected or deferred for not showing interest), send a letter of interest to your regional admission rep showing great interest in UMich and an update on your accomplishments/final grades and you should eventually get accepted I think!!
