So, I'd really like to go to uChicago, but I have some outside circumstances...
34 ACT
2.88 unweighted gpa
President of stage crew, European dance
Volunteers at 4 different animal shelters
Have been taking Japanese for 7 years, fluent in German
strong essays
strong recommendations

The problem is... my gpa... which is due to the fact that I was chronically ill throughout my sophomore and junior years of high school, with severe anorexia, depression, and anxiety (all officially diagnosed), and then having to move in with a legal guardian instead of my parents on top of all of that. I'm actually very proud of myself for passing all of my classes and not having to drop any. I can luckily say that I am much healthier now and my senior year grades are on a sharp upward trend. I have an interview scheduled, and I feel like my ec's are good. I just don't know what the best way to approach the explanation of my grades would be. Please help?
