Hi! I am applying Early Decision to Northeastern, and was wondering if anyone with more knowledge could chance me.
Intended Major: Bioengineering
Applying For Financial Aid: Yes
SAT: 2020

(leadership position where you are paired with a new student throughout year), I am a little league umpire and soccer referee, I worked at a summer camp in my town this past summer,
Pretty sure I will have strong recs, my essay was decently strong. Its definitely my number one choice so Im hoping they can see that with the Early Decision application!
Thank you for everyone who looks at this!
I think you have around an average chance.
I know that’s not a terribly comforting response, and I know it’s pretty damn distressing working on your application - and that waiting for decisions is no stress-free task, either.
You look solid from what you posted here. Do whatever you can to make it better, and try not to plan anything around getting in - have backups.
In the meantime, if you have any questions about the application process or the university’s programs, feel free to ask
Thanks for the reply! A few questions-
- I go to a private school in Massachusetts, and it seems like a lot of students from my school go to northeastern every year. Does the high school you go to matter, and does past history indicate anything?
- I know early decision is very new, but I was wondering if you knew much about it. I know most people say that applying ED gives you little advantage, but I figured that in terms of their yield, applying ED would be beneficial?
- Finally, will it be harder for me to get in because I am applying to the school of engineering, or does that not matter?
Thank you!
No problem!
Yeah - so, for all of those questions, the answer is that they will affect your application a little bit, but probably not significantly. ED will definitely help, but I am not sure to what extent. Going to school in Mass could be good or bad - they accept more people from Mass, but they also have more people apply. Past history means something, but it definitely depends from person to person regardless of the school. And different schools will have slightly different acceptance rates, but nothing significant enough to worry about.
