hi, i’m applying to transfer into GWU this fall and I wanted to know what you guys thought of my chances of getting in? I plan on continuing as a finance major but will declare “economics” as my alternative major in case I don’t get in the business school. Really nervous because I really want to go here but did get into some trouble at Delaware… Don’t know how much of a role that plays in the admission process…
High School:
SAT- 1980
GPA- 3.21 (unweighted) 3.5 (weighted)
3 AP classes
College:
University of Delaware/Community College- 3.1 cumulative (so far)
Full scholarship athlete w/ extra merit scholarship (part of varsity women’s athletic team)
Declared Finance major
EC: good/decent (just because my sport was extremely time consuming)
your low GPA is a killer. however, your SAT is within range. i would therefore recommend you take another year to raise your GPA and apply again in the spring semester of your sophomore year. this would probably be the smart thing to do anyways, even if you had a high GPA already, given your scholarship. you will save about $50k-$60k by shaving a year off, or about 25k-30k by shaving a semester off.
@Zoidberg93 reason for my low GPA at UD was mainly due to my sport and not being able to manage my time efficiently as I was a starter as a freshman and traveling a lot (usually thurs-monday) so missing a lot of class. I got a 2.67 (i know super low) for my fall semester and a 3.3 for my spring semester. I then moved back home due to some issues and for winter session at community college, I got 4.0… and taking 17 credits now and still remains a 4.0. If I explain this, do you think I have higher chances? I want this so badly
you do seem to have a very strong upward trend, especially if you are able to hold on to that 4.0 with 17 credits. if you can do a decent job of explaining your personal hardship (in addition to improving your grades), you have a shot, especially with your decent SAT. however, i would put off transferring as long as you can, because you seem to have a pretty great thing going with your current scholarship. you will most likely not receive a full scholarship at GW if you are accepted, so you would be losing out on thousands of dollars. if money isn’t a factor, then go for it now. but the longer you wait, the less you have to pay, and the more likely you are to a lot of aid if your grades increase even more at your current school.
@Zoidberg93 thank you so much!!! turned in my applications and i couldn’t be more excited/anxious/nervous!
