Hi, I’m currently a junior in high school and very eager to make a college decision. I want to go to a big 10 school, or even a large public university. My home state is Illinois but I’m looking to travel east, west, or south. I have an act composite of 29. My weighted gpa is 3.6 on a 4.0 scale. I will take 7 ap classes total at the time of graduation. I’m a member of national honor society, Spanish honor society, English honor society, art honor society, officer in student council, student ambassadors, officer in science club, science bowl and varsity club. I ran cross country every year and lettered twice, I ran track two years and lettered once, and I was a cheerleader. Thanks!
Going on what you have listed above, your chances at a top ten school are little to none. I would say you have a decent shot at some good public schools, but probably not the top ones (UCB, UCLA, UMich - Ann Arbor, UNC - Chapel Hill). For the school’s you are looking at, you should have above a 30 on the ACT if you want to be considered. Preferably 32+. Your GPA is also a bit low and will also hold you back, aim for a 3.8+. You seem very well rounded, but you lack the depth that top schools are looking for. Is there anything very significant you have done in these clubs? You should focus more time and energy on one or two (perhaps three) ECs. I don’t mean to come across as mean, just trying to help you be realistic. There are plenty of top notch schools that don’t have as tough admissions as HYPSM. Do some research and find ones.
If I am reading this correctly, you said Big 10, not top ten. You should be able to get into some Big 10 schools. I suggest IU or Iowa. IU is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country and is a good school. I assume from your post that you do not need financial aid.
