Hi, so I currently have a 3.78 UGA GPA with 8 APs until senior year. Due to my low GPA, I want to apply regular so that they will see my senior grades. If I manage to get all As, then my GPA will be around 3.96 UGA. My new SAT score is around 1550/1600 and I participate in a lot of extracurricular, such as HOSA, Beta, competitive chess etc. What are my changes if I applied regular?
And BTW, I have 4 APs this year, AP Physics C: Mech/Emag, AP Statistics, and AP Environmental Science
I’d say fairly strong regular, if you can manage to get all or mostly As. The 1550 will be really helpful.
@dartagnaneb oh ok. I am also in state, will that also increase my chances?
I’m not sure it affects your chances at all. I’m fairly certain the admissions criteria are the same for in-state and out-of-state applicants, it’s just that the applicant pool is massively composed of Georgia students (because UGA isn’t really a name outside the state.) The main thing holding you back is the GPA right now. Is that 8 APs during freshman-junior year, or will you graduate having taken 8 APs?
@dartagnaneb 8 APs up until senior years, I graduate with 12 APs. Does this effect my chances in any major way?
No, that’s much better. Your GPA would have been comparatively lower if it had been 8 APs by graduation. High test scores and low GPA usually come off negatively to colleges though, so make sure to keep your grades up through the first semester.
@dartagnaneb oh ok, so say if I get all As except for one class, I get a 3.91 UGA GPA. Is that a decent GPA for admission?
Yep
@dartagnaneb are the stats eligible for the honors college?
@aye123 I mean it’s hard to tell. Like I said, the grade point average is a weak point in your application, and that is the main thing that admissions officers look at. It’s not out of the realm of possibility, however.
Remember Honors applications are due by Feb 1.

@dartagnaneb oh ok, thank you. I really hope I get in.
I hope you do too! Good luck!
I think you would’ve been very competitive for EA! Though your GPA is lower than your average, your rigor and test scores are phenomenal! If you have good recs and a good essay, you will be a great candidate, Good luck!
Thank you! @jennacwa but are you referring to my current or second GPA after senior year 1st semester?
The 1550 will really help, you’re fine! I think you have a good shot, even for the honors program.
@AnxiousHam thank you - is GT out of the realm of possibility for my stats?
I don’t think Georgia Tech is out, by any means! Your 1550 is still higher than their average SAT(I think it’s a high 1400) and your 3.8 isn’t really that low at all. I think their average is like a 3.9 but .1 won’t break you. You’re a strong candidate!
Your current GPA is pretty good, but your GPA after senior year first semester will still make a difference and help you out!
