I realize that there is a surfeit of apprehensive, self-doubting high school students roaming through college confidential, venting their insecurities through ridiculous chance threads in the hopes of somehow being validated...

Senior year schedule:
AP Calc BC
AP Stats
AP Gov
AP English

First, as to the legacy point, many schools don’t consider attendance at a grad/professional school by a parent or sibling to be the basis for “legacy” status as an undergrad applicant. Not sure where NU stands, but you might want to check.

Second, as the the main question, you are obviously a qualified applicant and should be proud of your level of achievement. That being said, NU will be flooded with applicants whose “numbers” are as good and better. NU is certainly within your reach, but that’s the most that can be said. Have you visited? If so, make your “Why Northwestern?” essay/statement and your main essay sing. Also, as to your senior curriculum, have you taken physics yet? You are clearly an accomplished math student, which is great. Some schools expect the majority of applicants to have studied both calc and physics before they graduate. (Although I have no inside information as to how much NU in particular care about this; I just know that many of its peer schools do.) Are you taking a fifth course? If not, I think your schedule looks a bit light.
Good luck!

I am not sure about the legacy issue either. But on Northwestern’s supplement on the Common App, it asks whether you have any immediate relatives that attended, and gives the choice of graduate or undergraduate. So I assume it is taken into consideration?

Also, I have visited Northwestern. I would apply ED, but my only concern is that my GPA is low, and I think my application could be strengthened if I can show improvement in my first semester of senior year.

I took honors physics in sophomore year. Unfortunately, my school does not offer AP Physics. And yes, I am taking more courses senior year then I listed; just electives. The ones I listed are my core classes for senior year.
