Chance Meh

I'm sure these chance threads get annoying but ...

I'm applying to a couple schools for 10th grade :

1.Taft
2.Choate
3. Loomis
4. Hopkins
5. Chase

I'm not interested in boarding as these schools are commutable.

Grades- GPA for the past two years has always been around 3.85
SSAT- Predicting somewhere in 80th percentile (i hope)

EC's-
Football- Been Playing for 6 years, plan to continue
Baseball- Have played on two "Top 25" teams over the course of 6 years, plan to continue
Basketball- Played at AAU level for the past 4 years, been playing for 7. Plan to continue..
Guitar- I have been playing for 5 years, have also studied jazz with two respected players.

Teacher rec's should be pretty good, I get along very well with all my teachers. Interview will hopefully go pretty well too, I'm good with people.

As far as my classes go I feel a little intimidated on this board. I'm in Algebra 1 as a freshman , and our school doesn't offer freshman any AP's. I am however in 3 Level 1 classes, not sure how that will compare to prep schools though.

I will need Financial Aid

Also what is the definition of a legacy? Does it mean your families had close ties with the school? Or you've simply had another sibling go there...

Thats about all I can think of right now,

any help would be muuuuch appreciated =]

I forgot to add, I've been taking Chinese privately for about a year.

Loomis- Match
Taft- Slight Reach
Choate- Slight Reach/Reach
Hopkins- Not Sure, probably Slight Reach
Chase- Don't know the school

thanks, and chase and hopkins are both local day schools which would be my safety.

do admissions mind if you call them? i wanted to know what I'm up against and ask how many applicants/spots they have.

Where do u live? I know a lot of schools in that area. Private message me if u dont want to post ur town.

I am curious to know why it would be a slight reach for Taft and a match for Loomis? I thought Loomis was more selective.

according to boardingschool review taft's acceptance rate is 30% and loomis's is 39%.

but we all know bs review isn't completely reliable

anyone else?

I would say Taft is more selective.
I would ask in your interviews how many 10th grade openings they have. We did, but we did not ask how may applicants. We asked mainly to know how it would be to fit in socially coming in as a 10th grader.
Did I read your post correcty that both Taft and Loomis are commutable? I'm surprised at that based on where they are located. Loomis has a significantly higher number of day students, however they told us that the large majority of them come in as 9th graders - very few day students come after that they said.

Nooo i worded it wrong. I could be a day student and Taft. Loomis I would have to board but it would be fairly easy for family to come up for sports and what not.

My interview isn't for a while at taft so ill probably be suffering from PARA Syndrome (Pre Admission/ Rejection Anxiety Syndrome) till then. I desperately want to get in as I can;t stand my current school and not many other BS;s attract me. I;m considering NMH, I dont know much about it however. Hopefully I'll get a chance to tour it one weekend.

your app looks pretty good, maybe you could get your ssat up a little higher...

also i see you play football and are applying to taft, if your some kind of star player that might be a hook ( they're 0-5)
