Chance of Admission UC Berkeley UCLA?

Just out of curiosity, if a UC applicant had a 4.08 UC capped GPA, 3.75 UC UW, and a 4.33 UC Weighted, BUT they got a 1550 or higher on the SAT, do you think this applicant would have a chance at admission to UC Berkeley or UCLA?

Please let me know thanks

it’s in the reach category, but you’re in the running, in general. For some majors like EECS for either UCB or UCLA, chances are tiny. My kid got into Berkeley L&S last year with almost the same stats. The UCs are very holistic, so a lot of times it comes down to secondary things like essays, course rigor, leadership and ECs.

Below is some statistical information for admit rates for Capped Weighted UC GPA. These are not major specific, so as stated by @ProfessorPlum168, competitive majors will have lower admit rates and require higher stats overall. Also remember, stats alone will not get you an acceptance. Your overall application including essays, EC’s, HS course rigor etc… will be considered.

2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 10%
UCLA: 9%
UCSD: 34%
UCSB: 38%
UCD: 41%
UCI: 38%
UCSC: 70%
UCR: 84%
UCM: 95%

2018 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
UCLA: 4.23
UCSD: 4.16
UCSB: 4.13
UCI: 4.13
UCD: 4.11
UCSC: 3.96
UCR: 3.81
UCM: 3.71

2018 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:

both are reaches for you. I’d consider UCSC, UCR and UCM as matches. UCD, UCI and UCSB are a coin toss. Also take a look at SDSU and perhaps some privates (LMU and USD).
