Chance of being accepted after being deffered

When I was deffered in November, these were my stats
SAT: 1130/1600, 1730/2400
ACT: 27
Community Service: None
GPA: 3.22 weighted

I have already retaken both the SAT and the ACT, and UCF has this listed
SAT: 1170/1600, 1830/2400
ACT: 27
I have already turned in my community service hours, and I had 78
Also, first grading period I had 4 A's and 2 B's, and this one I will have 3 A's (if not 4) and 3 B's (if not 2), so hopefully my GPA will go up.

Do you think with these new stats, UCF will accept me?

Make sure to have your college guidance counselor send a copy of your midyear grades to UCF as soon as they are available. I believe that once UCF sees how well you did first semester, you will be admitted.

you applied for the summer term right? bcus if you get into fall with those stats, damn.

Okay, thanks seiclan.
Dymecaker, no, I applied for fall.

I’m not sure what Dymcaker is trying to imply but I think your stats are just fine for Fall. Your weighted GPA could stand to be a good deal higher compared to most Fall applicants but your latest test scores are in a solid range. At most schools GPAs arent recalculated until a few weeks after the first semester is over so make sure you have your schools resend transcripts after the first semester is averaged in. Good luck!

I’m implying that for Fall…UCF expects way more than that. Some 4.0s have been deffered…with good test scores. But Spradere, it doesn’t matter, just apply and you still have a chance bcus admissions works oddly towards who they admit.

Actually no, UCF doesn’t expect ‘way more’ than what he/she has right now. Her ACT is in the higher mid-range of what UCF accepts for fall term, and a little higher would probably even land her a scholarship. Her GPA is the only problem, but then again, it’s really not THAT low either.

Mizzxvii, thats funny. My friend last year got rejected with a 4.5 1020 SAT (Popular High School).

Somewhat schools are becoming elitists. But they do choose those “borderline applications” so they don’t tend to favoritism.

Well of course. UCF is not going to let someone in for fall term with a 1020 SAT, no matter what their GPA is. A 27 ACT is just much much better than a 1020 SAT. Someone in this forum actually has a child with a 4.0 uw GPA and a pretty average ACT (I think a 22-23 ACT or the equivalent on the SAT) that didn’t get accepted to UCF for fall term last year. On the same note, someone else having a 3.2 uw and a 30 on the ACT not only got accepted, but also offered a scholarship. That should tell us how much UCF value those standardized test scores. It sucks, but it’s true.

In 2006, my D had a 4.0 uw gpa, top 15 class rank in her class of 500, officer in several organizations, 4 AP classes with A grade, 200+ volunteer hours and a 1050 SAT. UCF deferred her until she got a better SAT/ACT. However, UF accepted her for summer 2006, where she will graduate this May with a 3.8 gpa. UCF’s reliance on high standardized test scores is making them very short sighted in my opinion to really stellar kids who are not great standardized test takers. My S was recently admitted to UCF with a 30 ACT/1290 SAT, of course. UCF is missing the boat with it’s short-sightedness about SAT/ACT scores—they shouldn’t be the be all/ end all of a student, but only a part of the total package.

Agreed Jankrav. Its kind of unfair for them to rely on test scores so heavily. However, its something they must do because they are still growing and developing as an elite school. UF is already known as one of the top 50 in the country so its a given that brilliant students will apply there, this gives UF the luxury of looking past just the numbers and looking into other great things, things that your D clearly exibited with her EC involvement and community service. UCF, on the other hand, is still trying to imrove its overall student body so the easiest, perhaps laziest, way to do that is focus on the numbers. Although its tricky to give test scores more weight than GPA. I believe the test scores give a reading of how prepared a student is as far as knowledge and skill set for college. However, it gives no indication of how dedicated a student is to his work, while a GPA does. But again its tricky because schools use different systems. For instance, I had a 4.0 all throughout high school, my weighted was a 5.4 even though I only took 2 AP classes (but everything else honors). Yes my GPA would be high regardless due to my unweighted but my school inflates them quite a bit. In the end though what matters is most is that you’re happy where you or your S or D study.

I think using the sat/act scores takes care of the possibility of inflated gpa’s…Not all schools are equal and its difficult to compare students who graduate from a competitive high school vs. one that isn’t. Just my opinion!

Will all that being said, I don’t think a single test score should outweigh 4 years of high school. It’s a good measurement to go along with the GPA, but should definitely not be relied on so much.

So it is, UCF (like the majority of schools) want the high SATs.

if anything SPradere, you’ll be in for summer AT LEAST.

The OP’s test scores, were probably not the problem. A 27 a good bit higher than what it takes to get into UCF and FSU. The GPA of 3.2 is what they probably deemed as too low. We also don’t know the extracurriculars that are weighted heavily especially with a lower GPA.

Thats the OP. read the whole thread smart guy.

Yeah, those test scores are very good. When I was accepted, I had waaaay lower scores than that! I think it is just your gpa, but honestly, if you can bring it up to around a 3.5, I think that you should get in. Just make sure to send your mid-year grades into them.
Good luck and keep us posted! :)

We also don’t know the extracurriculars that are weighted heavily especially with a lower GPA.

So since I play sports it can cancel out my average gpa and act scores

^
Haha buddy, extracurricular activities aren’t as important as you think they are.

I’d have to agree with Mizzxvii, i think they do like extracurriculars, but i dont think theyre a deal braker. UCF, like many other schools trying to jump in rankings and quality of the student body, focus quite a bit more on GPA and test scores.
