chance of me getting in?

I’m currently a highschool junior, and I am hoping to apply to UMich but I am really unsure of my chances now. I’m from out-of-state and I would really like to go into chemical engineering.

  • I estimate a 4.66 weighted GPA and maybe about a 3.75 or greater unweighted GPA (I didn't get a very good glance at it). -I have taken 3 APs and I will be taking 4 more next year (I have taken APWH, I'm taking APBio and APUSH, and I will be taking AP Lang, AP chem, AP gov, and AP calc) -I have two years of NHS, one year of student council, one year of art club presidency, and 3 years of involvement with GSA. I plan on adding one more year of student council, one more year of art club, and I would be starting lacrosse next year (it's a bit late but better late than never).
  • My goal SAT score is 1400, which is very achievable

Looking at the out-of-state acceptance rate has been… intimidating for me as of late. I would really appreciate some feedback with the info I have provided. Thank you!

Do you have AP physics? Also the 1400 is low. Do your best but you want like over a 1500 or 33/34 Act equivalent to be competitive for OOS. Avg engineering is 3.93 GPA unweighted with 33/34 Act as an example.

U Mich engineering OOS is a reach. Both your unweighted GPA of 3.75 (if you think that’s incorrect, you can calculate it on your own, core classes only on a 4.0 scale) and SAT score are relatively low. Adding that AP calc BC is more desirable than AB on engineering apps.

Regarding ECs, they seem light, although I don’t know what GSA is. Only play lacrosse your senior year if you want to do that…having one year of lacrosse in one’s senior year is not likely to help your college apps.

Even if your test scores were perfect, OOS engineering acceptance rates are very low. It should be considered a reach school for all OOS eng applicants.
