Chance of transferring from UW-Madison?

Hello everyone!

I have a friend of mine who is wanting to transfer from UW-Madison to Minnesota for her junior year. Her concern is the fact that a lot of people transfer from community colleges and have boosted GPA's as compared to UW-Madison, which is a difficult Big Ten school. Her GPA right now is a 3.0. She has participated in many extracurriculars related to her major and she would be applying to CLA, which is one of the "easiest" colleges here on campus. She has talked to the admissions office, and naturally, they are pretty vague on her chances, as they can't say much about it.
Does anyone know if she'd at least get a little bit of credit for transferring from a Big Ten school as compared to most others?

I'm currently in Carlson, and I know this may sound arrogant, but I realize how difficult the Big Ten schools can be, so I feel as if applications coming from them may be at a disadvantage, and that is why both myself and her are worried about her chances.

Thanks to anyone who could provide us with some help!

Anyone?

3.0 from Madison? To CLA? She’s most likely in. What’s her major?

Physiology. Obviously, I understand that the admissions office isn’t dumb or ignorant, but do you think they weigh her application slightly differently than that of a community college? The GPA isn’t awful, but when compared to much higher GPA’s from other colleges…

I think they will give a little preference over a community college. The reason why I said she’s “most likely” in is because so many students, such as myself, transfer out of CLA, so it’s much easier to transfer in. But now as I remember it was only easier within the U; I think they’ll give some preference to her because she’s from Madison.

Alright, thank you very much!
Anyone else have an opinion on transferring?

I think she gets in, Madison and the U are about the same difficulty wise, Madison might be a little more difficult. It’s way easier to get good grades at a community college than at real college like Madison.

Thanks for the input! I was hoping they’d at least look at it differently, so that’s good to hear.

Anyone else have experience with this?

My friend who goes to a community college in the Chicago area is trying to transfer up here for aerospace. He hasn’t told me much else, though.
