My daughter is applying for the 6th grade. Her ISEE scores are: verbal (88%), reading (96%), math achievement (91%), quantitative reasoning (79%).
Any lead will be much appreciated!!

The SSAT scores seem fine, great actually, but there is just SO MUCH more to the application to that
how are her grades?
EC’s?
community service?
leadership positions?
Essay?
interview?
recommendations?
@doodlebean8
She’s applying for 6th grade! Not the same app as highschool.
@one1ofeach, well- (don’t know too much about 6th grade apps), but won’t grades and EC’s still matter? (to a lesser extent) I’m sure that SSAT is fine tho
Thank you @one1ofeach ! Applying for 6th grade is somewhat different from high school. Her scores at school are fine though. I am just worried that her ISEE socres are not good enough- I heard Winsor only accepts 90%+ average.
That is definitely NOT true. I know kids in older grades who play on their BB team and those kids no way got such a high score.
However, I really don’t know anything about 6th grade admissions. Best of luck! Are you applying anywhere else?
Her scores are fine for Winsor and I know kids who attended with lesser ISEE scores. EC’s do matter, along with the teacher recommendations – and from our experience in applying for 6th grade, the interview was everything! We didn’t apply to Winsor because I didn’t feel like my daughter was “their kind” of girl, my daughter’s scores were not as high as your daughter’s either – we ended up a Mustang family instead in 6th grade! Good luck!
@one1ofeach No we only applied for Winsor. She was too nervous when she took the ISEE that day and so she did not do well on the quantitative reasoning section. She took the SCAT later and her math section ranked 95% (as compared to the 8th graders’ norm group). I have also sent the SCAT score report to Winsor. Winsor admissions staff told me they would put the SCAT score report on file as well. I hope it will help a bit.
Thank you!
@SkysTheLimit2007 Thank you for your encouragement! Our interviews (including parents’ and kid’s) went quite well (although I am not sure whether I am too confident or positive).
Also, I heard there are some “feeder schools” for Winsor. Have you heard anything about that? Thank you so much!
I’m sure both you and your daughter did great! As long as you’re truthful, honest, and present yourself should be fine. My son was truthful and even though he didn’t have the best score, he was still accepted into a couple of these types of schools. Even though he chose to stay at public school.
@GracieBoston I don’t know about the feeder school situation with Winsor but the kids I knew were definitely just local public school girls – one of them, I was actually surprised she got in but she also ended up leaving in 9th grade for a local public high school. I think it’s necessary to be positive but at the end of the day we just never know until March 10th – and I know the wait can be excruciating!!! I hope your daughter meets with success, it seems like a great school! My daughter competes with them each season and they seem to have a good, accomplished bunch of kids from what I can see.
Roll on, March 10th!
@SkysTheLimit2007 Many thanks again! Fingers crossed!!
@CrackersCrayons thank you for the encouragement!!
No problem, I wish you the best of luck!
