Chance UC EA + RD Schools - Will Chance Back!

It would be nice to have decisions predicted as well. Thanks!

TESTING:

SAT: 2290 (740V, 750M, 800W) - May retake in January
SAT Subject Tests in December

GPA: 3.97 UW (One 89, all other As)
4.214 W (On a scale of 4.8, but no one ever gets a perfect -or close- 4.8) - 100 = 5.0/4.0, 99 = 4.9/3.9, 98 = 4.8/3.8, etc. 4.8 is what you can get if you make perfect grades in all required classes (mixture of weighted and unweighted)
Not ranked

APS:
Lang: 5
APUSH: 5
Physics B: 4
AP Art History: 3 (Took it without studying. The class at my school was also a complete joke.)

School is top 50 public school in US. We're a magnet school.

All classes are the highest level possible. This means all Pre-AP/AP/Honors (And the higher level when we have two Pre-AP levels).

Senior Year: AP Calc BC, Honors Diff EQ, AP Euro, AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP French, Honors Orchestra, Honors Adv Biotech

IMPORTANT: I went to Montessori schools through 9th grade, and when my prior school ended, I transferred into my current school for 10th grade. This means that I only had 3 years of possible commitment for school activities. It also means that I wasn't really prepared for the rigor of my current school's curriculum.

Activities:

Orchestra:
11-12 Years double bass (since 1st grade) - Not applying to music school because I don't really want to only do music for the rest of my life
Music Supplement -- It's pretty good
Went to Interlochen (6 week summer intensive arts program)
All-Region (and section leader) - but I've never auditioned for state
Section leader at school, also top group
I've done tons of various youth orchestras (always top group)
Uniform officer

Orchestra club VP
We tutor students in orchestra, do chamber music, etc.

Cross Country/Track:
Soph+
District Runner Up in all events in 2011-2012
District Champion 2012-2013 - Top 10 or so in my division of state
Team Captain, etc
Recruited at some D3 schools, and possibly some D1

NHS - Pretty big at our school, just a member

Mentoring - Mentor freshman students every two weeks for a class period

Knitting Club - Knits hats for kids with cancer

Environmental Club

Chess Club

Magic Card Game Club

Academic Awards:
Got Duke TIP recognition
National Merit Semi-Finalist
AP Scholar with Honor
High Scorer on National French Exam

Scientific Research:
Participated in a very selective(~15%) research internship program for 6 weeks this summer.

Recommendations:
3 teachers: French, WHAP/EURO, and ENG/Philosophy (Only two will be sent to most schools)
I assume these will all be great
Private teacher
Running coach

University of Chicago:
-Brother Attends
-Wrote Apples and Oranges Essay (English teacher helped me through it, she thought it was good)
-Had the teacher who recommended my brother write my letter
-Interviewed, it went really well and my interviewer told me that they would write me a great recommendation
-Spoke with the cross country coach, but I'm not yet ready to commit (unclear as to whether I will get admissions boost)

ALSO, may consider these state schools (OOS):
Michigan
UNC
UVA
Cal (multiple legacy, not that this matters)
UCLA

I’m guessing you are applying regular for all? Anyway you have awesome chances because of the coach stuff, scores, gpa, etc… don’t worry about it haha. Just write your essays well.

Who are you talking to in Emory? Just Coach Curtin? I’m close with Coach Johnson, I sent him my transcript and he said I’d have a great shot.

Also Yale: you might be able to get in but recruitment is unlikely, as you said, unless you are a top top athlete…

Haha, thank you. We’ll see about Yale…

Anyone else? Especially for UChicago…

University of Chicago: high match
Yale: lower reach
Columbia: low reach
Stanford: low reach
Wash U: low match
Michigan: lower match
UNC: match
UVA: match
UCLA: high match
Good luck! You sound like you have some really strong parts to your app.

Uchicago- low reach
Yale- low reach
Stanford- low reach
Columbia- low reach
WUSTL- match
UMichigan- match
UNC- match
UCLA- high match
UVA- low match

Good luck!!

Chicago, Yale, Stanford, and Columbia are all reaches (but reachable for you). Penn CAS, Amherst, Williams and Cornell are lower reaches. You could get into WUSTL if they feel like you’re not using them as a backup. Then you’re in at the rest.

Emory- it’s a really competitive scholarship but good luck! i think you can get into the reg school though
Uchicago- reach
Yale- high reach
Stanford- high reach
Columbia- high reach
UMichigan- match of reg
UNC- high match if chapel hill. idk what state you’re from but UNC takes very little out of state applicants
UCLA- high match
UVA- match

your issue comes from the fact that your extracurriculars aren’t THAT strong

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1579580-chance-me-will-chance-back.html

Thanks, got you back.

I would Say UChicago is a low reach, and all the other schools in that bracket are reaches. You’re a competitive applicant and I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into many of the schools on your list  good luck!
