Chance with dean recommendation?

So my high school told me to keep this abstruse so I'm not gonna mention a lot...not even the name of the college

For one of the colleges I'm applying too (it is a top 10 college), the dean of admissions and another dean has recommended me to the admissions office. My teachers say that my chances of getting into this top 10 school are extremely likely. But my college counselor says the dean recommendations probably won't get me accepted because of the prestige of the institution and the fact that no one from my school has been accepted there for several years

What do you guys/gals think?

if you think you have a chance, apply. What’s the risk? Only time, and a small fee, which will probably be wasted on something else like lottery tix should you not apply.

the dean’s recommendation ALONE will not get you in. but take the most rigorous program in your HS, get good test scores, good teacher recs, write good essay and do good activities and the dean’s rec might be the one factor that gives you an edge over the thousand of others who have ur stats

I think I got into my top choice BECAUSE no one had gone there for over 5 years.

^haha, it doesn’t work like that. they’re not going to pick you just to give your school a statistic. you can attribute it to anything you want but i’m pretty sure you were a great applicant without that factor.
