Most of my opportunities had to be self-made and based on personal drive as well as convincing related staff/admins to let me have said opportunities.

That's a lot about me! I know the Music Industry major is a tricky one and required much research to find programs that will give students everything they need to get a leg up into the business. It's not an easy place to break into!

Colleges:

Belmont University
Drexel University
McNally-Smith College of Music
NYU-Steinhardt
Ferris State U
University of Colorado at Denver
University of Southern California

Thanks so much! Let me know if you have any questions!

I am willing to give out any more info anyone needs to chance me.

BUMP! Come on People, I'm not a bad kid!

Bumping!!!~~~

There is no university of colorado at denver... There is colorado boulder and University of Denver. Your ACT scores limit you, and your GPA does as well, especially since there are no AP classes on your schedule.

That said, IN MY OPINION
NYU- no chance
USC- no chance
Denver- reach

Those are the only schools I have heard of that I feel I can say anything about

^ My school does not offer AP classes, therefore the hardest classes offered are classes for dual credit at accredited colleges.

Also, I mean University of Denver lol

I understand that, but that also means that if your hardest classes are easier than the hardest classes at my school (we have 20 AP options and the IB diploma program) that you should be getting A's in those classes and have a GPA closer to 4.0. In many cases, the AP and IB classes at my school are more difficult than intro courses at any school, so a B is more acceptable. I don't know anything about Web Page Design, but this class should be difficult for it to count for a lot. I think that when schools say that they want you to take the most rigorous schedule available to you, that they are implying that if the most rigorous classes are easier than ones at bigger high schools that you should be getting a 4.0

^ Our school only allows college-level classes in junior and senior years, and I'm taking and have taken all that are available.

Also, I did have a somewhat bad freshman year that contributes to the GPA.

-> Supertme, There is a CU Denver, FYI. There is CU boulder as well as CU denver. (I know, since I live in Colorado, and my school sends dozens over to each every year).

On the other hand, MissRomania...

1. Did you get the "Can you believe in me" from that little speech given by the African American fifth grader (or something)? XD (I really liked it, so I was wondering if you liked it too XD)

2. Belmont University: don't know

Drexel University: match
McNally-Smith College of Music: don't know
NYU-Steinhardt: high match
Ferris State U: don't know
University of Colorado at Denver: safety
University of Southern California: match

Hope I helped =D

Thanks so much guys!!!

Bumping!!!!

bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUMPING, because I could use more opinions!

I've never heard of the other colleges so here goes:

NYU-Steinhardt - Slight reach, since your school does not offer AP courses, this college will look at the rigor of your courses with what you took. So not taking an AP courses shouldn't affect you much.
University of Southern California - reach. Much harder to get into than NYU. tuition is a buttload of money. my sister goes here
average unweighted GPA is 3.8 for this school.
hope that helped.

supertme, yes there IS a CU-Denver (same system as Boulder)

That being said:

Belmont University -- very weak
Drexel University -- unlikely
McNally-Smith College of Music -- don't know the school but unlikely to succeed in the biz
NYU-Steinhardt -- not a chance
Ferris State U -- don't know
University of Colorado at Denver -- unlikely
University of Southern California -- not a chance

Having graduated with my degree in Commercial Music (and Psychology) and having taking many courses with students in your area of interest (I did the production/engineering route; started as performance), I do not see anything in your profile listed above that would give me any indication of preparedness to apply to a program in music business. I'm sorry, but you seem completely and utterly unprepared. A strong applicant to ANY program in music biz would already be working in the biz and a strong applicant to the moderately to extremely competitive programs (which USC, NYU and Belmont would all be a part of) would likely be managing a few bands and doing some touring and have had enough success to really not "need" the program in the first place. You're NOT applying to perform an academically-oriented career so forget the academics! If a School of Music or School of Music Business REALLY wants you (because you're a proven success in the biz), they can parade you in (right past Admissions) AND with a full-ride scholarship to boot EVEN with a 2.0 GPA and barely "passing" ACT/SAT scores -- trust me, I've seen it happen! As our UG Registrar says "the School of Music will sign ANYTHING." Basically, you need to get some realworld experience so that you can walk and show them you're more than another dreamer!

Edit:
I did just notice this buried in your profile:

HIM Street Team Leader- Minnesota
-Founder of Minnesota chapter
*Correspondence with label
*Handing out flyers to promote tour, album, etc.
*Creating contacts with band, label, record stores, street team members, venue staff, etc.

[/quote]

If I were your adcom, I would want to see A LOT more of that! That's the meat they're looking for! The rest is, to be honest, basically just fluff to please the UG Admissions dept., but the school usually makes the final decision when applying to specialty programs like this. Generally, you get admitted by the school and the university separately, so you have to pass both their criteria (although, as I said, if the school REALLY likes you, they usually have the political weight to push a prospective student past the admissions committee to get them into their program). For that reason, I'd suggest catering to the school/program itself -- especially since the things that the program is looking for are generally also quite advantageous to your career as well!

I am probably the last person to talk about this, but your GPA seems weak for NYU and USC and the ACT score isn't helping. Anyways, here is my take.

Belmont University- if you bump up that ACT to a 25+ match
Drexel University- if you bump up that ACT to a 25+ match
McNally-Smith College of Music- Don't know
NYU-Steinhardt- Reach
Ferris State U- Never heard of it
University of Denver- don't really know
University of Southern California- High Reach, I really like USC too but i have no shot... here is a basic look at their stats: 3.7 avg HS GPA and 30 avg ACT
