<p>Your GPA looks kind of low, but your SATs are definitely good. I'm not sure how MSU would weight a test score as opposed to GPA, but I think you would have an okay chance by applying early. Augment your application with a teacher rec and essay as well... IMO.</p>
<p>by the essay do you mean the optional essay? Im considering not doing it because I dont have a strong response for it.. and it only "potentially" counts towards potential scholarships</p>
<p>I'm talking about the essay on the online application. I didn't check whether or not it is optional. I believe it will only help. If you have a good English teacher like an AP one, I would write an essay and have your English teacher look at it. That's what I did.</p>

<p>Are you instate or OOS? Your GPA is pretty low. How hard were the courses you took in high school?</p>
<p>One essay, the personal statement, is required. The other is optional. If you have extracurriculars that would be helpful. And community service.</p>
