My son received Full Tuition Scholarship back in Dec, and at the same time, was invited to apply for Chancellor’s. He submitted his app within two weeks as required. The next milestone would be to be invited for an interview.
Does anyone receive interview invitation at this point?

Class, he will either get an invite or a letter to the contrary–eventually.

I’ve only seen posts that people have received the no interview letter, but none that they received an invitation to interview. So at this point…as stated earlier in the post, no news is good news!

My D is also waiting to hear about an interview. She’s keeping her fingers crossed. PITT probably won’t be on her final school list unless she’s fortunate enough to receive a Chancellor’s scholarship. I think it would be a great school for her!!

My d got the “no thanks” letter yesterday. Good luck to those still waiting to hear.

is it to late to apply for the chancellor’s scholarship?

I believe you have to be invited to apply. You could call the honors college or admissions and ask.

Well I got a 10k scholarship… So I am guessing that it was the Chancellor’s Nominee Scholarship. I’ll have to check the letter later.

My son receive the invitation to apply Chancellor’s, letter dated on Jan 10, and ask him to post mark the mail within 2 weeks from the date he received the letter. My son just turn in yesterday. Is it too late?

Got a letter from Mark Nordenberg (the Chancellor) yesterday. When I saw the skinny envelope I thought it was a “no thanks” for the Chancellor’s interview. Instead it talked up the advantages of Pitt, but no invite to interview. Waiting is frustrating. I can’t afford two trips. Pitt is high on my list because of the full tuition scholarship, so I really want to see it, but if I’m lucky enough to be invited to interview I need to wait to save the travel for that trip. Did everybody get this Chancellor’s letter dated Jan 21?

iammichelle, he’s fine, he probably got the invitation letter a few days after its Jan 10 date and he had 2 weeks from the day he received the letter.

^^ My S received a similar letter from Chancellor Mark Nordenberg praising the virtues of U Pitt. Don’t know what it means. Still waiting for status on the Chancellor’s scholarship.

My D also received the letter from the Chancellor today. I hope that it means that she’ll be invited to interview!?!!

Do you know how many students are invited to apply and how many finally granted the scholarship?

Does the Chancellor scholarship look at kid’s Undergrad application package as a reference, or just look at the scholar application? I ask this Q because on the invitation letter, it ask us to supply rec letter, why didn’t the school use the letter from the UG rec letter?

Peonytour–in years past, I think about 400 are invited to apply (and I have no idea how many do apply), 100 are invited to campus, and about 10 are awarded scholarships. I don’t know whether they have both applications when they review for the Chancellor’s scholarship. However, the Chancellor’s is handled all through the honors college, not admissions, so it would make sense if the processes were separate.

IMO, the scholarship application and process makes students prove that they are really interested in Pitt. It is an extensive application that takes lots of time and energy at a time of year when most HS seniors have had enough.

10 out of 100 sounds so competitive. Do you have any idea how many interviewers to meet, how long the interview takes, if the trip cost covered?

iammichelle: if you search this thread, you will find postings from students invited for the interviews at PITT. Most of the full-ride scholarships are very competitive. I don’t believe PITT will reimburse you for the cost of the trip.

Today, son received the same letter from Mark Nordenberg – but he already received the “Sorry No Interview for the Chancellor’s Scholarship” letter about 3 weeks ago.

My son received the Chancellor letter yesterday, just telling him how great Pitt is. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for an interview!

does anyone know that if you are nominated to be the presidential scholarship candidate, your chance of getting in Chancellor scholarship increases?

My son received the no interview letter Saturday, but we are thrilled he received full tuition. Good luck to the students who get interviews!
