I was told at my interview that they would decide by mid-April.

For everyone that has already interviewed, what did you where to the interview? Is business casual OK?

I wore dress pants and a button-up shirt. Just look like you made an effort :) It's a pretty casual interview.

Wow, mid-April might be a problem. Getting the Chancellor's scholarship could be make or break for my son's decision to go to Pitt. If he gets it, he will surely choose Pitt. If he doesn't then he is likely to consider one of the other schools offering him good aid.

He likes Pitt but I don't know if he would wait for that decision if he got a really good one somewhere else.

It seems counter-productive to wait so long. I seems like the school would want to lock those students up before D-Day.

Oh well, can't control it so I guess we will just see what happens.

Best of luck to all of you!

I thought we didn't have to decide until May 1 for most schools?

Good luck to your son.

I wonder when and how the results will come? Snail mail, email or phone call?

I know my son really wants to know if he got the Chancellor's because it is THE deciding factor for him. Even if he gets one of the Ivies he will go to Pitt if he gets the Chancellors. He got into UofChicago, his dream school, and he still says CH. Scholarship and he will be at Pitt next year....

The suspense is killing us!

I just got back from my college visits which included my chancellor's scholarship interview. It seemed to go really well. On my part, they did not ask me about my essays. I was interviewed by the dean and the UHC director of programming who also teaches philosophy. We did discuss my majors (dual literature and chemistry) but a lot of the questions were more in the area of "Should science be useful?" and other more philosophical questions. Before I left, they gave me a copy of the Iliad because I mentioned reading greek plays and such. I was really excited. Also, one of the academic advisiors ran out to meet me and told me that he thought my application was really interesting. There was just generally a suprising amount of excitedness about me and my application. I thought that the interview was pretty fun actually. It was like the kind of deep, intellectual conversation that I always wanted from college.

By the way, they said interviewing should be complete by around April 15th I think. I would expect that they would inform the recipients really soon after that.

They are still interviewing? I thought they were done. That's a lot of interviews. I wonder how many students were interviewed and how many scholarships they plan to award?

If people who interviewed later don't mind my asking?? Why did you interview later (like in March) as opposed to the end January or in February?

I guess I am wondering if:
1. They didn't find the applicants they wanted in the earlier rounds so invited more people to interview later in the process?
2. With rolling admissions they chose people to interview as the applications were processed.
3. They decided to interview and award more scholarships because of the economic downturn.
4. They actually invited everyone in January and it just took this long to get them done?

They said they were interviewing about 60 people. There was at least one other person interviewing that day. In my case, I blame part of the lateness on my alaskan residence. mail acts weirdly sometimes. I only recieved my chancellors application in the middle of january. they had it back on January 28th. So, as you can see, I obviously couldnt have been invited in January. Actually they finally emailed me on about March 20th. Seeing their reaction, I really don't think it was because they couldn't find the applicants. i think they just had a lot of applications to go through so it took a while. My interview was only about 2-3 days after I got my email. (I already was planning to go to Pitt because it was my spring break). Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure at least 3 others were interviewing that day because they said all 3 normal slots were filled and they had to create a new time for me.

i'm almost positive they do choose people to interview as the applications are processed.

They told me that about 15 scholarships will be awarded, but judging from the website, this number ranges from year to year.

Funny coincidence, Jamiecakes, I am also between Chicago and Pitt, and it is mostly dependent on this scholarship.

Have any offers been made to people for the Chancellor's Scholarship?

Based on some old forums, it seems like they offered it to students as interviews were going on.

Since I will be interviewing next Saturday, I just hope that my chances are worse off than if I had interviewed sooner.

Pitt is the school that I am going to enroll in, and although I already have a full tuition, receiving Chancellor's would be both an amazing honor and incredibly helpful financially for my family (as, I'm sure, it is for anyone)

Silvykins

My son is the one up for the Chancellor's scholarship. You two have a lot in common. In fact, when I read an earlier post of yours I thought it might be him! : ) But he rarely posts online, just reads CC a lot.

His dream school is Chicago, he is a double major Philosophy/Microbiology and is considering Pre-Med (he wants to work in Infectious Disease in third world countries). But he REALLY likes many, many things about Pitt and is very torn.

The Chancellor's Scholarship would be the deciding factor for him and so we await the decisions.

Good luck to all of you and good luck on your interview GuitarRckr.

My son is interviewing on Saturday also!! He actually was one of the 1st to receive the email that he has been selected for the interview, but we couldn't make it out to Pittsburgh until this weekend. That way, he gets to go to the Honors Day as well.

Good luck, fingers (and toes) crossed for GuitrRckr and d101 families who I believe are gong to Pitt for Chancellor’s Interviews this weekend!

Good luck to everyone! And don’t be nervous. They were so friendly to me that I forgot it was even an interview. =)
