For the record, S applied early to Pitt - in September and received an invite to Chancellor's scholarship early November. Can't remember the exact dates off-hand. However, he didn't receive official word until yesterday that he was not invited for an invitation. That leaves him with $10,000x4 from the University and $2,000x4 from Engineering.

S just received an invite to apply for another "Pitt" scholarship - Chesapeake & Potomac. So, maybe this is still an option? He also received word that he has received a full-tuition scholarship (McNair) at USC -- going down there this weekend for finalists. If he moves from SF to F, he will get room & board as well.

The Chesapeake & Potomac is the scholarship bestowed by the Alumni group. I recall they only give out 1 scholarship and all students who are accepted at Pitt from the NOVA/DC/MD areas are invited to apply.

Bumping this up to see if there have been any other chancellor invitations/interviews/offers? DS is interviewing in April.

D talked with the Honors College office today. (She is interviewing for other scholarships, and she really wanted to know whether she is effectively out of the running or should still consider Chancellor Scholarship a possibility.)

They told her that they are still going through the apps and that next Friday will be the final meeting to determine interviewees. It seems late compared to other schools, but she is happy to still be in the running!

Yes, it does seem very late! s interviews first weekend in April...by then he'll have gotten his decisions from 4 more schools. Pitt will have to make their decisions then right away...in about a week or so, so that students have a chance to consider all their offers. I wonder if Pitt is making decisions as they go, or are they waiting until all interviews have taken place??

does it matter that i haven't received word yet - either way?

how has the info been coming to you all?

medkid--we haven't had any info since December, and based on D's conversation with Pitt today, that means she's still under consideration. I assume that the same is true for you, so don't give up hope.

d101--I imagine Pitt (like all schools with generous merit aid) is anticipating unusual yields this year. It makes sense to hold off on some interviews until other schools' decisions are out. That may enable Pitt to assess how serious interviewees are about accepting Pitt's offer and therefore enable them to manage their scholarship commitments more effectively. Just my guess.

My S got a letter today; no interview

I got a letter too today --and no interview :( oh well Pitt's out now I guess

I got notified that I will be interviewing for the Chancellor's scholarship on Monday afternoon. I am really looking forward to revisiting the school.

Does anyone have anything to share about the interview process? Thus far, all I know is that they ask you go into further detail into the essays that you wrote for the Chancellor application, and that you will probably be interviewed by people from the departments you are interested in, but besides that, I don't know much else.

Thank you!

Does anyone know if travel expenses are covered? I'm from Minnesota, so do I have to fly myself out there and figure it out on my own for the interview, or will they fly me out?

When did you guys get your interview notifications? Was it recently? Also, I'm pretty sure that travel expenses are not covered.

I know a lot of people are interested in the stats of people who got interviews- here are mine:

32 ACT
4.1 W GPA (Mostly A's, a few A-'s Freshman and sophomore years, A-'s and B+'s junior and senior year) Probs around a 3.7 or so UW.
Full IB Diploma candidate- I think this is what helped me the most. My EC's are mediocre at best and ACT is good but not great. However, I take IB Theory of Knowledge which helped me out SO MUCH on the essays. I can't imagine writing those without some experience in philosophy.
That being said, I think the interviews went to the students with the best essays, because my grades and scores aren't phenomenal and some here had higher of both than me.

I agree with supertme. My grades and scores are well below some peoples, (1400) but I worked really hard on my essays. They also complimented me about my writing at my interview, so again, the essay portion had to be significant.

As for the interview, it was really more like a conversation. They mostly advised me on the majors I might be interested in because I am unsure of what I wish to study.

For the Chancellor's scholarship finalist, do you have full tuition scholarship already?

Yeah, I did get full tuition 2 months ago.

I also received a full tuition.

Also, thanks for sharing about the interview, staal315

I called the honors college today and was told that the committee HOPES to finish reviewing sometime this week, and applicants SHOULD be notified within the next two weeks... arrrgh.

Wait, you mean that thats when they are sending out decisions?
