chances, and effect of date app is considered

Thank you in advance I know its long
My school does not assign rankings beyond the top 10%, that being said I am not a member of this group-requisite GPA ~=4.12 for some context.

I know it is a crap shoot outside guaranteed admission, though I feel I have the credentials to have a fair shot among the pack(see below). Unfortunately though I have only recently realized the implications of rolling admission, which from unofficial sources and my own reasoning leads me to believe that the closer my app is considered in relation to the deadline the more dire my chances are. The logic that worries me is that as rolling admission progresses the spots for non guaranteed students will grow very slim thus offsetting my app's strength by the increased competitiveness. Any incite would be appreciated(i am leaning towards not submitting till the end of the weekend 11/20 for the sake of my essays). In a related matter, while I know UT "takes your highest score", have some concerns still that maybe somebody can silence with there experience or expertise.

Now about the test scores
Test 1. Critical Reading 700 Math 620 Writing 490
Test 2. Critical Reading 740 Math 680 Writing 530
I also sent the one act test I took early sophmore year and got a 26 on)
**On all of these tests my essays are rather atrocious( very cut off I am terrible at timed writes), I intend to have both app essays very polished before submitting, however how much concern should be had over these lower scores and the not so good essays accompanying them
Subject Test Chemistry 700
Subject Test U.S. History 740

p.ssssssss, oyea and while I also recived a strong reccomendation from my junior year English teacher, in the section(not the strongest of the letter) where he discusses some of the accolades of some resume items he incorrectly states that i am captain of the wrestling team, hope that isn't a red flag I don't think it is wise/ethical to try and match this error on my sent documents.

shameless bump

rolling admission is only for top 8%ers, there is no rolling for non-top 8

kthx

Actually, UT does admit some non-top 8% students on a rolling basis when they present with very strong stats. A few have posted here (plus a Plan II admit today–but they say up front they operate rolling admissions); several seniors at my kids’ non-ranking HS have already been admitted.

Powerspec, two years ago, my oldest waited until the deadline to apply. She was admitted, but not to her first choice. You risk capacity issues in popular colleges the longer you wait!

Your profile looks strong. Congrats on your hard work.

Re: your writing scores, I wouldn’t stress over them. All admission officers understand it is a very contrived writing situation. Well-written application essays should go a long way to dispel any question begged by those scores.

Good luck!

PS - Don’t forget, UT’s a receipt school, not a postmark school, so if you (or your HS) have to submit anything on paper, mail it early enough to be sure UT receives it on or before Dec. 1 (and accounting for Thanksgiving delay).

While it is completely possible for kids from non-ranking high schools (such as TAMS) with good stats to get in on a ‘rolling’ basis, what I meant to say was that if you are out of the top 10% in a ranking school, as the OP is, you are not going to be subjected to rolling admissions. UT Austin waits until they have filled up 75% of the freshman class with top-8 percenters and then holistically reviews the non-top 10 percenters after December 1.

As for the Plan II admits, Plan II operates a bit differently from UT Austin admissions as a whole so its not too surprising that some have already been admitted. In fact, if a student is admitted by Plan II but rejected by UT, they will still get in.

Good luck on your application and don’t sacrifice any quality just to get it in early.

Based on the fact that Plan II advertises that they typical choose kids in the “top five positions” of their graduating class, I would assume an admission to Plan II and a denial to UT would be very, very rare. And according to my D’s admission letter to Plan II it said it was contingent on admission to the University…just FYI.

To clarify what redhotsrock said, UT does holistically review and admit some non-top 8% students before the Dec. 1 deadline. And a student cannot be rejected by UT generally yet get into Plan II.

My Ds school does not rank, but the counselor said that UT calls and gets the rank from the principal. It could be the same with your school.
