I am a junior in high school and I am from Florida.

I took the SAT for the first time on December 5th, and although I was slightly disappointed with my scores; I feel as if they were decent for having absolutely no preparation at all.

Here are my stats:

580 Critical Reading
530 Math
570 Writing

GPA - 3.98
Class rank - Top 25% (This is an estimate; I may be higher)

I am in the International Baccalaureate program at my school which is the equivalent of AP classes except for Pre Calc Honors and French 3 Honors. I hope to obtain an IB Diploma at the end of my senior year.

Extra Curricular - I play on the varsity soccer team and I am involved in a few clubs (Not an officer of any club due to soccer). Additionally, I am in the National Honor Society at my school.

I just wanted some honest outside input as to my chances of being admitted into the first year engineering program.

I am taking the ACT in February and plan to get a tutor to help me with the math. Also, I plan to take the SAT at least 2 more times.

Any advice given is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

just try and raise your sat scores and you should be on track. UF really likes students from IB programs, but they also like students in top 10%. Ask your high school if they actually send rankings, because if they don’t that will be in your favor.

All in all, remember that the people on this board cannot provide accurate chances. Just keep trying to improve on yourself, and your chances of admission will continue to increase.

I am a senior IB student (though I live in Turkey) and I applied to UF!
your sat scores are low, even as a non-naative speaker I scored the same scores in my sophomore year. You gotta raise your math score it needs to be over 650.
what are you high levels and standards? you’re applying to enginerring so it’d be a lot better if you took HL physics and math. That would make a huge difference.
Also, a piece of advice: DONT QUIT THE PROGRAM! at the end of this year, you’re gonna start thinking about quitting the program and maybe you will. but that will show you as a quitter. and have your extended essay done by the end of this summer.
good luck!

My HLs are English, History, and Chemistry. My school doesnt have HL Physics and I plan on taking SL Math my senior year. My SLs are going to be French, Math, and Geography.

Don’t stress out! They will love the initiative you took by taking challenging classes at your school. Make sure you continue your challenging schedule next year and get good grades first semester.
Also, tutors REALLY help with SAT/ ACT scores. I think my score increased 250 points cumulatively with the help of a tutor. Test scores are important, but the fact that you have such a strong GPA and initiative in high school are more important.
This summer, or next semester, I recommend taking an online course or a course at a local community college that supplements your classes, and is relevant to engineering. Maybe UF has a summer program for high schoolers that you can take?
Finally, start your application early next year, and leave yourself plenty of time to really represent yourself well on paper.
Good luck!

I just have a lot of pressure on me to get into a good school; you can just imagining how much I’m stressing because I am already worried about it hahaha. But yeah I am going to get a tutor before I take the ACT in February. Additionally, I really want to get into UF because of the opportunity I have with BrightFutures. Yeah, this summer I am probably going to take a math class such as Calc AB so I can take Calc BC my senior year so I can look good for engineering.

So yeah, just try to obtain a leadership position in one of the clubs, maintain a rigorous schedule, and bring my SAT/ACT scores up, and I should be on track?
