I’m an incoming senior and I have a current unweighted gpa of 3.8. I took three ap classes last year, gonna take five this upcoming year, i was sophomore class president and student body secretary for two years (junior year and this coming senior year), have been on volleyball for four years (varsity team captain for 2 years in a row), tutor kids in middle school and in high school, am the president of six clubs, and I’m the treasurer for my rotary district in San Diego. I got a 31 on my ACT but I’ve studied a ton and am taking it again and aiming for a 33 or higher. I’m worried that since I don’t have an unweighted 4.0 gpa my chances of getting into UC Berkeley (and I wanna go to their business school which i know is super super impacted) will be significantly lower and I’m stressing ALOT because it’s my dream school. I feel like I don’t stand a chance to other kids applying. Honestly what are my chances of getting in?? Should I give up hope? :-S
You cannot get into Haas as a direct admit Freshman. You apply as a Junior. Your UW GPA and test scores are in range for UCB. You have good EC’s with leadership.
What you need to do is calculate your UC GPA (capped weighted and fully weighted): https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
If your capped weighted UC GPA is 4.2+, then you stand a decent chance at an acceptance. Again there are no guarantees, so apply widely and the best of luck.
I would not NOT apply, but definitely spread the applications around as Cal itself is a crap shoot. Try to get that ACT score up - D got in with that, but her weighted GPA was well above a 4.0. Also, I wouldn’t add anything else to your EC list without taking something off - your being spread so thin may not look as good to them as you think (depth vs. breadth - 6 clubs is enough!). IF you do get into Cal, you will need to have outstanding grades and get yourself into some business frats/clubs to help boost your Haas app.
