Chances At FSU?

GPA UW: 3.4-3.5
GPA W: 3.6-3.7

SAT Scores: 1100 (However, it was my first try and I didn't study at all. I'm taking the ACT in Sept. and the SAT in October)

Course load: HL Spanish 3, HL Chemistry, HL Pre-Calc, AP Calculus, AP English Lang, AP US History, AP Stats, AP English Lit, AP Government, AP Econ, AP Psych
Basically the hardest schedule my school has to offer

Rank: Ranging form 40-60 out of around 650. So Top 10% of my class.

And I'm OOS, so I'm assuming that will hurt me a little bit, and I'm applying for the late Oct. deadline.

Thanks

My opinion:
Your class rank and course load look good but your grades and SAT score look average. It is surprising with AP and honors courses that your weighted GPA is almost the same as your unweighted GPA -- are you sure this is correct?

FSU gives .5 weight to honors/dual enrollment and 1 .0 weight to AP/IB. They only count your academic courses. I would definitely try to improve your SAT/ACT and grades to be more confident of your acceptance. I think you have a chance of being offered summer acceptance.

"It is surprising with AP and honors courses that your weighted GPA is almost the same as your unweighted GPA -- are you sure this is correct?"

cybermom- the weighting system in many oos schools (and instate private schools) is very different then the Florida Publics (which give out much more weight to honors/AP classes). I don't think that is very unusual.
My own daughter has a 3.6 weighted and a 3.4 unweighted at her private school here in Florida. Her FSU GPA is also a 3.6.
She will be applying to FSU this summer for next summer admission (2008).

SoCal - your courseload looks very good. I have confidence that you will be admitted but agree that summer is safer.

What matters for admission is the FSU calculated GPA. The high school GPA is only used to determine class rank. What would SoCal18's FSU weighted GPA be? That would give us a better understanding of the chances for admission.

Weren't you slated for UMiami?

Well Miami is definitely my first choice, but I want to keep my options open.

For the FSU gpa, I'm assuming they don't count PE, typing, and health. And it's 0.5 points for honors and 1 point for AP.

FSU GPA (9-11W): 3.55

And for my SAT scores I think I can get around a 650-700 for math, but CR I'm not sure. I'm hoping for a 550-600.

So somewhere in the 1200-1300 range, but maybe the ACT is my test.

So what do you think my chances are? I'm applying for a communications major, most likely PR.

You would definitely be accepted if you were in state.

Not sure how tough they are on OOSers but if you lived in Florida you would be in.
