Chances at Haas (One year at Private, One year at CCC)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a bit of advice concerning my chances of being admitted to Haas. I'm considering majoring in either philosophy or business at Berkeley and I don't know what path I should be going down. Obviously, my chances of getting into Berkeley are going to be much higher if I take the philosophy route, but I was wondering if I will have a good chance of getting into Haas. If so, I may apply to Haas rather than philosophy.

I went to University of San Francisco for one year on scholarship and took 32 units. My GPA was 3.95.

I'm currently going to DeAnza where I will have 63 units completed by the end of the Spring Quarter. 8 summer+21 fall+17 winter+17 spring. I'll have all the prerequisites for Haas done.

I should have a 3.9 or 4.0 over these 63 units.

I also got a 2300 on my SAT-I.

I own a business and my extra-curriculars should be as solid as anyones. My essays should be pretty good as well.

What do you think my chances at Haas will be?

I'd shoot for Haas if I were you. You have a decent shot.

What kind of business do you own?

Also interested in your business. What kind of EC's?

Your chances look solid. However, as great a score your SAT is, they unfortunately don't look at it.

My business is an internet start up currently running in stealth mode. That's about as much as I'm able to disclose.

I haven't taken any of the econ classes yet, I was planning on doing macro in the winter and micro in the spring. Do they give any preference to people who have their prereq's done in the fall?

Are there any numbers for people with similar stats as me? I see that about 20% of the qualified applicants are accepted. Obviously essays play a big part, but I don't want to gamble to get into Haas and then get rejected and not be able to get into Berkeley.

I want to go to law school, is Haas good for that?

You wanna go to law school after Haas? Not really worth it, imo; you want to shoot for the highest GPA possible, which is why most pre-law students take poli sci.
