Your dad is not an alumni, he's an alumnUS. I'm sorry, I'm not usually such a fanatical grammar Nazi, but I love Latin and it really bothers me when kids who are applying to Harvard or Stanford don't know something basic like that. :-X It would probably help you in the future to know:

male, singular: Alumnus
example: My father is a Duke alumnus.

male, plural or male and female both, plural: Alumni
example: Harvard gives children of its alumni an advantage in the application process.

female, singular: alumna
example: My mother is an alumna at Yale.

female, plural: alumnae
example: Wellesley has a very powerful group of alumnae.

...and of course, "Alumni" should be pronounced Alum-nee, while "Alumnae" should be pronounced Alumn-nigh if you're a classical Latin purist. :)

Most people like being given the chance to better themselves! I thought I was doing you a favor! If you don't enjoy learning for learning's sake, whether on CC or in school, maybe you don't deserve a Harvard education!

I would like to write a book, but sadly, I couldn't make many new insights into the Latin community, and likely won't be able to for a long while.

I bet they would have accepted you if you had called your father an "alumnus". :( That sucks, I'm sorry.

Well I am thoroughly disgusted, but in the best possible way. I adore your connections and am horribly jealous. And your grades aren't too shabby either. Good job and good luck.

well if it makes you feel any better, im only going to get into my two "safety" schools in all likelyhood. ugh apparenty my grades actually were that shabby

Just to update, got into UVA and WM, got rejected from Duke Dartmouth Penn Harvard Stanford and Amherst. so according to gutrade, i hit a 1 in 193 lottery. SWEET!

My advice is to go to one of those (which you have to) and transfer if you still want one of those reaches. With your scores and a good first semester GPA, you are a great transfer candidate.

yah i dont know i dont want to go into school with the goal of transferring, seems sort of wrong. but thanks for the advice. our school had a REALLY dissapointing regular admission deadline after a great early period, with me certainly headling it. i mean wm is a great school, but its just dissapointing to have the top boards in the class and get rejected from everywhere. oh well, goes to show you that to get into any ivy, you NEED to either a) have a 4.0+ culmulative or b) be a minority/first time college person.
