chances at harvard/stanford/brown/columbia/UCLA/berkeley/northwestern/U OF CHICAGO

(or any of those top tier schools.......)

PLEASE HELP!!!

but what are my chances?

2110 SAT (770 math, 650 reading, 690 writing)
and 2nd time 2090 (780 math, 680 reading, 630 writing)

and ACT: 30 (twice) 1st time: english 34, math 31, reading 27, science 27
and 2nd time: english 33, math 30, reading 28, science 30

SAT II's: 740 Math IIC, 730 literature, 520 spanish (ouch). taking it again: math IIC, chemistry, and spanish

I am a Chinese female going to a public school in WISCONSIN. the public school is known as being very good, pretty competitive (if you have a 3.0 you are in the bottom 50%)

unweighted GPA 3.99 (one A-, rest all A's)
i've taken honors algebra II, honors chemistry, honors physics, AP European history (got a 3 on the test), and this year I'm taking AP Calc AB, AP Spanish V, AP Psych, and AP Chem.

extracurriculars: lots of piano (and competitions), Spanish Club (11/12 grade), Key Club (lots of volunteering), 70 hours at a hospital volunteering, i am a Trustee for the Good Neighbor Festival, NHS, Math Team (11/12 grade), and i work at my parent's office and i had a summer job this year waitressing/catering.

and also, if it helps, i am a national merit COMMENDED scholar.

so, what are my chances??? i am probably going to apply in the next two weeks or so!!!
THANKS SO MUCH TO ANYONE WHO REPLIES!!!

well, i'm usually the one asking for the chances advice, but recently i have seen enough to give you an accurate chances response
lol
Harvard: unlikely because of SAT score (good score, but low for Harvard)
Stanford: unlikely because of SAT again (but more likely than harvard because you have a very strong gpa)
Brown: reach (sat score again kinda low for brown)
Columbia: reach
UCLA: i don't know much about UCLA, but based on what i do know i'd say its low reach, probable match
berkeley: low reach
Northwestern: match/maybe low reach
U of Chicago: does not care as much abotu standardized tests, so a 2100 may do it, gpa great so i'd probably say out of all of them you have the best chance here

if i had to guess i'd say you get accepted into UCLA, berkeley, NU, UoC

have you thought about Emory, great school and i believe their average sat score is 1380 that would be a match i think...you probably have a good chance at getting into dartmouth and/or cornell too

Hey

UCLA/Berkeley Match

Wow you make me feel so much better about where I am applying (no offense)

Ya, agreed, Harvard is really no match (at least according to their class statistics) but, hey, it's not really a match for anybody =)
I think you are a match for NU, Chicago, UCLA, and possibly Brown.
Have you considered Cornell, Dartmouth, or Emory (like previos poster said)?

Good luck.

^^ ouchies

harvard/stanford/brown/columbia: less than 10% chance each
UCLA/berkeley/U OF CHICAGO: less than 30% chance each (out of state)

bottom line: you are an below average applicant to these schools. the fact that you are asian with low test scores combined with the mediocre ECs means you will be rejected from all ivy league caliber schools

ouch.

oh well. i wasn't expecting anything more. so pretty much the only places i remotely have a chance at is northwestern and u of chicago??

but isn't u of chicago really hard to get into?

northwestern and u of chicago are both hard to get into

sat i and 2 too low

Um, I disagree. All ivy schools are reaches for anybody, of course, but I still think the OP has a reasonable shot at NU and Chicago.

By the way, CHICAGO IS A PRIVATE SCHOOL! So "being out of state" would not be taken into consideration. As far as Berkeley goes, they've got enough trouble admitting Asians in the state of CA who want to go there, in my opinion, that application might just be a waste of your time and energy. UCLA is easier to get into though and you should apply there if you want to go there.

I also think the OP should not write off Brown. While Brown is tough to get into, I think the OP has a shot.

harvard: reach (but it is for everyone)
stanford: see above
brown: slight reach, but still very possible
columbia: slight reach, but still very possible
UCLA/berkeley: reach (because you're out of state)
northwestern: match
U OF CHICAGO: match

good luck!!!

Your best bets are NU and UChicago with 25% chances to get into each. I would add more match schools (Emory, Michigan, etc.) to your list.

SassafrasRoots:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)

bumping it

Pretty much rejected everywhere. Piano does you in--your extracurriculars are far from distinctive. You have a shot with a 2150 and a good GPA, so go ahead and apply, but your essays need to be through the roof.

........ thanks i guess.

no really, i'm glad you're all giving me honest advice. well, your opinions definitely differ (some: "slight reach," others: "you won't get in")

but any other opinions?

Some advice: take the math IC SAT II. You'll get a great score and your SAT 2 average will be much higher as it will move spanish out.

Reach at all of those places now.

"Some advice: take the math IC SAT II. You'll get a great score and your SAT 2 average will be much higher as it will move spanish out."

but is that really worth it? most high colleges aren't even interested in math ic, right? isn't that sort of slacker-ish? i'll probably get like an 800 or close, but...

also, what do you think about WASHU? (chances??)

ur numbers are low

The UCs are nearly impossible to get into if you're from out of state, but with your stats you would probably be in the top few percent of the applicant pool from out of state.
