The Ivies I Am Applying to:
Dartmouth
Cornell
Yale
U of Penn
Stanford (Not an Ivy but the same caliber)

What are my changes of getting in? Chance me and I will chance you back!

Your class rigor is excellent along with your SAT, ECs, and UW GPA but since you are applying to Ivies it wi be hard to predict. I say university of penn you will probably have a higher chance than Stanford but Dartmouth, Yale, and Cornell are going to reach schools no matter the stats. I say you have a 45% chance to get into these 3, the other 2 I say 70% which is pretty good since most people don’t even have a chance with them. The thing with college admissions is that it will never be a 100% guarantee of acceptance especially with Ivies. Best of luck! :)

Thanks! I was getting worried about if i should find more targets (most of my schools are safeties stat-wise except for around 3 targets and these as reaches)

Even though your SAT score and GPA are well within range, your odds are lower than average because you don’t have a national-level EC. Since odds are about 3 to 10% RD on average, your odds are probably 3% at Yale and Stanford, and about 5-8% elsewhere. If you applied ED anywhere, roughly double that.
You have done everything you could for your dream schools… but at these, odds are against everyone (hence their titles of “wild cards”, “lotteries”, “crapshoot”, or “reach for everyone”).
The real hard work is starting now if you don’t have “non dream schools” - if you do, what are they?
In other terms, you need to find 3-5 matches (schools where your stats place you close to the top 60-75% applicants if the admission rate is 25-35%) and a couple safeties you like (schools where your stats place you at the top and where the admission rate is 40%+).
You can find this information using College Data.

Reach: All of them.

No hook -> automatic reach

I am also applying to:
SUNY Binghamton (I could 100% see myself there)
SUNY Albany
SUNY Geneseo
Tulane
Emory
Wash U
Washington and Lee
Siena College
UVM (accepted)
Case Western Reserve
Siena College
Saint Michael’s College

That’s a good mix. Did you run the Net Price Calculators?

i did not. Would you reccomend doing so/applying to any other schools?

Would you feel good about attending your safety schools? If not, add some or replace some. What is your intended major? Have you shown “demonstrated interest”?

I feel as though if all else fails, I would attend Binghamton. I intend to major in Engineering; I was already admitted to UVM’s school of engineering and mathmatical sciences. I have shown interest (visited the school, requested interviews) for Binghamton, Yale, Case Western Reserve, Washington and Lee, and Dartmouth. I have gone to interest meetings at my school for most of the schoools.

Yes, you should run the net Price Calculator on each website and bring the results to your parents: are some outside their budget? if so, cross them out.

4.0 UW and 4.07 W makes no sense with that schedule.

WHY are you applying to so many schools? Do you really want to go to all of them?

My advice:

Pick one HYPM and one non-HYPM Ivy.

Pick two medium schools.

Pick two safety schools.

You list 17 schools - why not take your $500+ dollars saved by applying to only six and go away for a weekend?

If you are already accepted to UVM and would go there, it is better than half of those on your safety list.

You can use the NPCs to get from 17 down to 6. For example, the Ivies were very different net prices for us, more than $10,000 different per year for some.

^If OP has a good shot at Ivies, s/he may be interested in the Honors College, and UVermont’s is very light. Since OP will be in Engineering, which is rigorous enough on its own, it may not matter, but that may explain why OP is trying to diversify?
I’d pick 2-3 Ivies, 2-3 non Ivy reaches, 3-5 medium schools you like better than UVermont, 1 or 2 more safety schools you like as much as UVermont. Total, about 12 schools. Since you have 4 super selective schools, you could go up to 15 colleges if they don’t have lots of supplements (since you should think of these 4 as if they weren’t there… but they do require a LOT of work). 12 is a good number though.

SUNY Binghamton (I could 100% see myself there) => definitely keep
SUNY Albany => cross out, UVermont is better
SUNY Geneseo => probably keep, good alternative if other schools don’t come through
Tulane => match
Emory=> non Ivy reach
Wash U => non Ivy reach
Washington and Lee => not sure why you picked it, it’s very different from all the others, I’d cross out since it’s an oulier
Case Western Reserve => match

Since these two are CommonApp, no Supplement, you can keep them both, but if you have to cut, cut one.
Siena College
Saint Michael’s College

Run the net price calculators to make sure all are affordable. If not, cross out and replace with an alternative.

FINAL RECOMMENDED LIST
TWO AMONG
Dartmouth
Cornell
U of Penn

BOTH OF
Yale
Stanford

PLUS
Emory
Wash U
TOTAL: 6 reaches

SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Geneseo
Tulane
Case Western Reserve
TOTAL: 4 matches (add one?)

Siena College
Saint Michael’s College

UVermont: safety, already in
TOTAL: 2-3 SAFETIES

I think based on your stats and extracurriculars, you have a shot. But like everyone else has been saying, ivies are reaches for most everyone, unless you win Intel or do something of that caliber.
Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1703251-chance-me-princeton-yale-uva.html#latest

Did you consider UVA? And I’m guessing that the OP is aware that Emory’s engineering is an extra year combined with Georgia Tech (I’m pretty sure).

I had not considered UVA- I’ll look into it. A lot of safeties gave me free applications (I’m guessing based on my PSAT or SAT scores)- that’s why I had so many, including Washington and Lee, Saint Michael’s College, Siena College, Tulane, and UVM. I have already applied to all of these as well as SUNY Binghamton, Geneseo, and Albany. Overall, I think I have only spend about $200 so far. I actually did not know Emory was a 3 and 2 with another school; I think that is reason enough to eliminate it. I actually got into Tulane yesterday.

I am really now trying to figure out if there are any other targets I should be applying to (since I obviously have enough reaches and safeties). Also- in the way of national EC’s, I scored silver on 3 National Spanish Exams and an honorable mention on one. I was also a scholar athlete (state-level I think) twice, and was a National Merit Scholarship Commended Scholar. I also worked at a summer camp (lifeguard and swim instructor) over the past two summers; my essay is actually about that. I chose to write about failure, specifically about a child that I taught all summer yet I had to save him, and how that affected me. By the way- thanks for all of your help!!

Congratulations on your Tulane acceptance!
I would add UVA and UMiami, perhaps Brandeis.
What would be the top 3 qualities of your “ideal match”?

It would be a school with a strong sense of community with lots of activities on campus, undergrad # between about 5,000 and 10,000, and lots of choices regarding majors (as well as the ability to major and minor in different schools, since I think I may minor in Spanish or Business). I also would prefer to be somewhere colder- I live in NY and like the climate here. I would prefer to not go to FL- it is too hot there.
