Hey guys I'm a high school junior in Houston and would like to know what my chances of getting into BHP are as well as what I can/should do to improve them...

Class Rank: 1/650ish
National Merit Scholar (met the cutoff at least)
SAT Score: 2310
Reading: 740
Math: 770
Writing: 800

The normal EC things - involved in several clubs with leader positions, class officer, job, etc.

Should I retake the SAT to improve my 2-part score?
Are there any specific things BHP requires?

Well im in many clubs but most of them don’t require too much involvement. Im a junior class officer and officer in mu alpha theta. I plan on running for President of NHS, but for some reason students at my HS aren’t offered the chance to join until spring of their junior year…Thanks for the leadership update - i was wondering whether they valued that or volunteer stuff more heavily.

I would say, “Welcome to BHP” but I have read on here that being #1 and great stats isn’t a guarantee. That being said, I would give you a 99.9% chance! Start thinking about your great essays and write them over the summer. I recommend requesting your teacher evaluations now so you won’t have to wait on them during the mad rush after school starts this fall. Keep up the good work. Oh, and I wouldn’t worry about taking the SAT again unless you just particularly want to.

@windowbob he can ask, but BHP has an electronic recommendation form that applicants are required to use, so he can ask now, but they can’t write it until he does his application.

OK thanks guys. Im not one of those people who is super stressed about everything and always thinks they need to do more, I’ve just heard BHP is pretty challenging to get into. Thanks for the responses!

I got into BHP with lower stats (i.e., 2200 SAT 690 R / 710 M / 800 W, 800 USHis, 670 Lit, 690 Math , 650 Math II [-.-]).

Although, I must say I had 7 EC’s, with 5 of 'em being ones in which I’ve had membership in for 3+ years/leadership positions in addition to having ~200-250 hours of community service (Church, camp mentoring, nursing home, etc.)…nonetheless, no work experience. o.o

You’ll most likely get in…if you do get an interview (which is a VERY good sign), make sure to stress your management abilities and any notable things accomplished in clubs under your leadership…

PS
I’ll most likely be seeing you in my class(es) next yera katytx if you choose BHP!!!
