Hi, I had posted yesterday but my thread dissapeared into the digital void and my account somehow followed (so I opened a new one). Anyway, I wanted to know what my chances were at MIT with these stats. I'm in one of the top five schools of the city (Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city).

GPA: 3.8 Unweighted
SATI Math: 680
SATI Verbal: 640
TOEFL: 623

The SATs I took are mock tests and I'm working hard to improve my grades upwards of the 750's. I still am in junior year mind you. I have yet to take other SATs.

EC
Math club
Green tape in Kung fu
Pottery club
Swimming
Piano (played a few recitals, quit a year ago).
80 hours community service.
Will do 30+ hours internship at local software company or IBM, still can't decide.

Awards
Third place national math Olympiad (middle school)
Second place local science fiction short story contest
Made it to the state finals in Informatics Olympiad last year.
Hypothetical but probable: Will earn a place in the national Informatics Olympiad this year. (The guys who kicked me out last year in the state championship can't participate anymore, they're too old, I had near to zero training, I've been honing my skills since.)

Others.
Have participated in every math and informatics contest held in the city. (Though I haven't won any.)
Made $500 recently after I started selling software (database solutions) to schools.
I am in a very competitive school, though nobody takes many extracurriculars in order to focus on their area of expertise; there's a Biology olympiad participant, a Geography one, and a couple of Math ones. I'm the local computer sciences champion.

What other colleges do you recommend for me, I want to study either business or computer sciences.

Habdragon08: Some ivies are need blind for all ( Harvard, princeton...that i know of) but there are ivies that are only need blind to us citizens and residents ( penn for ex.)

I am an MIT student from Mexico. It is nice to see other motivated Mexicans trying to gain admission to this university. Admissions are challenging, but (particularly for MIT) very humane at the same time. Make sure you send an application that portrays your character, your interests, and your passions, and not only the outcome of your contests. Many people in the world have attended (and won) numerous international contests and fairs. However, only you have your personality and your thoughts. Make use of them.

As my good friend from Penn pointed out, you are on the right track. If you want any further advice or information about MIT, feel very free to send me a PM. I will be more than delighted to assist you in anything I can.

joseamuniz can you please post your stats... i would just like to know what kinda stats MIT accepts international students (if im correct, MIT plans to accept only 8-9% of international this year, but 20%++ for US citizens)

yes if you can please post them joseamuniz, I have a friend who also wants to go to MIT, so I want to see how an international's stats should be to have at least a decent chance.
