I'm considering taking the SAT again in October but I'm not so sure yet. Upenn is a reach so I want to get a better SAT score to make up for my lack of jobs and extra curriculars :]
I'm really looking into media communications, so Steinhardt is probably where I'd go to at NYU and the visual studies program at UPenn looks amazing. I also still have political science as an potential major.

As it stands, I’m sorry to say that you have almost no chance at UPenn and Vassar, and a very small one at NYU. Firstly, you cannot include things like a breakfast and a raffle in your ECs/volunteering (no offense, I almost laughed). An EC/volunteering is something that you spend years on, or hundreds of hours. Not just something you do one morning on a whim. Babysitting is also not extracurricular. That being said, you have a good GPA. Good luck

^ I’m going to have to disagree.
I can’t tell you much about UPenn and Vassar, but for NYU, I think you have a decent shot.
My friend who got into NYU this year got a 1960 on her SAT and had ZERO community service hours. Her extra-curriculars were very limited and her grades weren’t anything amazing. She had B’s in all her AP’s as well. However, she was able to remain in the top 30 out of her class of 400+ students.
I think you have a decent shot at NYU, just work on writing a very personal essay. From your extra curriculars, it doesn’t look like you have one activity that you stuck to particularly, so make sure you have an essay that really shows what you are passionate about.

Having a high SAT score should be seen as more of a requirement than a way to make up for other parts of your application, especially for the private schools you’re looking at. You should retake your SAT I and IIs, if at all possible. Aim for a 2200+ and 750+, though there isn’t an actual standard.

Your ECs should be something you’ve worked on for a while, not one day events. Still, most schools don’t even look at ECs. Academic stats matter the most at public schools.

Thanks for the input! And davidoga, why can’t I include the breakfast/raffle as volunteering on my resume if it was offered through key club? And if you would read my first post again, I didn’t list babysitting under ec, I listed it under work.
And spatula, if I retake the sat again, would I have enough time to send the scores for ed?

Yes, if you finish by November. There’s no guarantee there though. Taking an October test would be more than fine, but November would be cutting it close.

You should mention Key Club, but not all of the individual events unless they were particularly noteworthy.

Okay. I know the ED deadline for nyu and rutgers is Nov 1 but I’m just worried that when the scores come in late October, it might take a couple weeks to send the scores in. I read that it could take 2 weeks-is that true?

I think you’ll be fine for Rutgers and you might have an okay chance at NYU. I’m not sure about the other one though…

Scores are sent directly to the school. They are electronic, not paper.
