Chances at Penn State University Park?

So I really screwed up here
I just finished my junior year. My cumulative GPA is a 2.21…
I don’t remember exactly what my freshman Gpa was, but my sophomore GPA was a 2.6, and my junior year gpa was a 2.1…
My sat score however was a 1970…

I am a minority (India , my parents were born in India, I was born here) I volunteered at a hospital for about 150 hours. I have no other ecs, my essays arent exactly anything To write home about…
I’m realty nervous. Where can I go? My top choices were
University of Arizona
University of Washington
Umass Amherst
Indiana university at Bloomington
Baylor university
Texas a&m
Penn state main campus
Syracuse

Please help, and any college suggestions would be great!

yep, you’ll get in. I’m a junior at PSU UP and you kind of get a feel for the caliber of students that make it to main.

Disagreed. 2.1 is wayyy too low for main unless s/he can provide a legit reason for the low GPA. The SAT score is outstanding though.

Whoops, I didn’t read the post above mine, I was actually referring to the original poster. I agree, 2.1 won’t get you into main, regardless of how high your SATs are.

I think you have a pretty decent chance. I’m a rising senior at Penn State UP and had the same GPA as you (but a higher SAT). I got in for the fall. I’d say work very hard on your personal statement and continue to excel in your extracurriculars. Also, apply as early as possible (preferably September or October). Good luck!

Hi, I honestly think you have a chance of getting in! My SAT scores were average, and I still got in. Definitely apply. If you don’t get in, that would suck. But you’ll never know unless you try! Best of luck to you.(:

Don’t underestimate the value of your extracurricular activities! Make sure you highlight your service and leadership activities. Your chances are probably stronger with DUS (Division of Undergraduate Studies - aka undeclared). Some students are offered summer admissions vs fall - and that can work out well. Does your high school have THON? Getting involved at the high school level can show your committment to PSU as well.

with approx 60,000 applications how do people think PSU can reviews ECs, personal statements and letters (optional)? It’s purely a numbers game (GPA, SAT and some corrections for APs/honors) and PSU quite upfront about that

I have an unweighted 3.1 but weighted 3.7. My school puts both on the transcripts. Does PSU go with the higher of the two? My SAT single seating is 2040 so it’s just my GPA that will keep me out.

^You will get in for summer.

Could someone give me thoughts on me getting in to PSU UP for fall please…

thank you

My D was accepted to Penn State Main campus with a 3.7 weighted GPA and 1200/1870 SAT. She was accepted as a Fall admit and did not check off summer on her application but opted to attend summer anyway in the LEAP program and loving it. Has made a lot of friends and acclimated to the campus.

I think the OP has a good chance of being accepted. Apply early. My D applied by the end of September and accepted by early November. We are OOS.
