Chances at Princeton/ other ivy leagues

I'm sorry but your chances look slim (lols like who am I to talk). The ACT shouldn't be too hard for you as it measures more of what you have learned in high school than reasoning abilities which you should have since you are the val. Look at some other schools where you might be more competitive (Cornell for example)

like everyone else said, you still have a very small chance because your scores are simply too low. I'd recommend that you find some safety schools to apply to, even if you still want to apply to HYPS and the like.

I walked into the ACT's without knowing how many/what sections were on there. I got a 35.

Nice ;)

From now on I'll call you Chuck Norris8948532

He'll have a decent chance with a 30-32...

Blunt advice: you need to get your scores up. At least in the mid 600s but really in the low 700s. So that writing score needs to go to at least 650. Your ACT needs to go from a 27 to a 32 at least.

You only need to retake the SAT; but if you do that don't report your ACT score because a 27 is way too low.

So if you retake your SAT and improve writing by 200 points then you have a shot.

Otherwise to be blunt don't bother applying to an Ivy or Stanford, since your chances of admission are negligible. You can still get a great education elsewhere so don't sweat it too much...

apply to an "SAT optional" school like Bowdoin or Reed--there are others, too

Any other tips?

gosh guys, u are being too hard on him. nhsharvard, do u still have time to retake the SAT? if u dont, i'd say get a crazy score on ACT and apply to a school that is familiar with ACT and gives it the same weight as the SAT. Maybe u can amaze them. Sorry if u dont get into a school of ure choice. Maybe ure just bad a testing.

If you're really interested applying to an ivy, Cornell is the way to go. I attended one of their information sessions a couple of months ago and the speaker (a dean of admissions? I have his card somewhere) and he said bluntly that Cornell cares very, very little for test results. In the past, they have even made decisions with scores blacked out. So you've got a fair shot at Cornell if you disregard your test scores. Hope that helps a bit.

I told him Cornell a while ago. Have you done any research? With your grades and some sort of scientific research you will definitely get into cornell.

Are you saying Princeton doesn't place an equal weight on the ACT as the SAt? I haven't taken the SAT and was planning on applying with my ACT score (a 35).

I'm applying to Cornell. I'm also applying to Princeton, etc.

I just need to improve those test scores and write great essays.

I already have a ton of ECs.
