In the not to distant past, PSU's SHC suggested that the average SAT I was 1450. Probably not accurate. New honors dean promises holistic application review, and SHC students have posted much lower SATs than 1400. My best guess is that anything above a 1300/1600 will get an applicant a serious look fot SHC. But it may be a bit more complicated as an applicant's intended course of study may enter into the admission decision. In the past, SHC was geared towards science, math & engineering students with high math SATs, the new dean may be seeking a better mix of majors in the honors college. A 1350/1600 SAT with a high GPA and high class rank will open a lot of doors for both of you if you select your colleges & universities well. As for the OP, an intended chemistry major, you may need a higher SAT score. As an aside, one of PSU's most highly regarded chemistry profs just left for a four year sabbatical in Sweden. I know him fairly well and he may not return.

I attend a small catholic high school in PA if that matters. This year, I am taking the toughest courses available and that includes AP Calc, AP physics, and AP Biology.

You both have a chance. Don't worry too much if you do not get in freshman year. You can always get in in your junior year (and sometimes earlier)! You can also request to live in honors dorms even if you are not in SHC and you can also take honors courses if they fit in your schedule and there is room.

I know I need to relax. I applied to four schools. I got into Penn State Univesity Park, but I don't hear from the other three until March-April. The wait is driving me crazy.
