My daughter is a junior at a competitive NY high school. She is in the top half of the class, GPA between a B and B plus, and is in preCal, physics, French 4, english, am hist and psychology. First set of PSAT's her sophomore year were not great (50-50-50) but that was without any prep so we think she could get higher scores. Plays three varsity sports but is not at level where she would be recruited, very active in religious youth group.

Wants to be an elementary teacher. Can anyone give their opinion on her chances at SUNY Geneseo, Oneonta, New Paltz, Cortland? Thanks

My son's school, which is a highly competitive NY high school keeps statistics on who gets in where and who gets rejected where, correlated to gpa, sat, and ap/honors. Most kids with a gpa over 80 on an advanced Regents diploma curriculum, and SAT's over 500 on both math and english get in to most SUNY schools except Geneseo and Binghamton. I would say that Oneonta, New Paltz and Cortland are a little more competitive than some of the others, so you should expand the choices to include the other colleges that offer elementary education and thereby improve your chances.

i think you're in pretty good shape.
I know somebody who got about a 2000 on sat's and SUNY buffalo was begging for her to go (free tuition, free room/board, getting paid to come, etc)
With a 3.0-3.5, 3 varsity sports, and decent sat's -- you're fine.

Thank you for your comments; that is encouraging. I'll try to have her consider Potsdam, Plattsburgh as well.

sawdust, are u talking about hunter? if so, whats his name?
