Chances at Texas A&M Engineering

Hello, I am just wondering. What are my chances to get into Texas A&M Engineering, specifically Electrical Engineering? I am currently a high school senior in state.

New SAT: 1200 (560 ERW, 640 Math)

Rank: 15/130

GPA: 3.92 UW, 4.18 W

8 AP Classes: AP Human Geo, AP World History, AP Chem, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Calculus AB, AP US History, AP Spanish Language and Culture

Extracurriculars and Achievements:
-Play at least 10 hours a week of soccer competitively (USSDA Member) and travel constantly where I have gotten personal achievements such as being invited to state and national wide combines.

-Went to Samsung Mobile APP Academy

-Student of the Year (Junior Year)

  • Distinguished Honor Roll

-State Cup Champion (Soccer)

-Regional Finalist (Soccer)

-First Tech Challenge member (Robotics Team)

-Senior Class of 2017 officer

Etc.

I’m really not an expert at this or even close but from what I know engineering majors are the most competitive majors at A&M and your SAT score is below average. Rank looks good though as well as ECs. I’ve heard that SAT scores hold a lot of weight though so I would retake the SAT and try to improve that score. Good luck!

Looks like you do not qualify for top 10% or academic admission by stats:

The top 10% and academic admits probably consume most of the entering class, so you are competing for the small number of remaining spots. Consider it a reach. Also, Texas A&M admits to first year pre-engineering; you need to compete for admission to your major later after taking the frosh-level courses.

Admission to College Station is unlikely. Physics BC is also lacking and necessary for Math 151, engineering calculus 1. Then there is the calculus based physics and your SAT math score is low. A&M has three engineering bridge programs. Galveston, Blinn Engineering Academy and the new one just announced with Austin Community College, and folks offered these spots last year had higher SAT scores.

Apply to safety schools and complete required coursework and apply to transfer to TAMU. Here is the required coursework sheet for electrical engineering. http://admissions.tamu.edu/pdf-transfer1617/Electrical-Engineering-done.aspx.

Admission to A&M is unlikely not to mention engineering. This is mainly due to your SAT score. If you got your SAT up to 1400+, you would be a much more competitive applicant.
