UIUC - low match due to its erratic nature
Purdue - safety

You could try some more selective schools such as Ga. Tech, UTA or TAMU.

ACT scores too low for both engineering schools. UIUC has a mid 50 of 31-34 for engineering. Purdue is around a point lower. Both would be reach even if you are from in state. You better check which programs each school offers.

Where did you get the stats? Purdue has a good engineering program, but the SAT M+V average is 1300 with a 3.6 GPA as found at the bottom of the page.
[Purdue University : Engineering](Purdue University : Engineering)

As for UIUC engineering, the admit rate is around 70 percent. 25-75 percentile ACT scores are 30-33, but the bottom line is, a high GPA with a low ACT is always preferable to vice versa.

Purdue low match, safety. I would also say Illinois a match. Best of luck with your application.

UIUC: high match
Purdue: match

@ BuBBLES
The link you found is outdated accorign to the tuition listed there. Second, it classified it as engineering college, but the data they listed is for the whole school, not engineering admission stat. Just think about the mid 50 SAT Math score of 540-680 shown there.
I went to the admission sessions of both schools and got information there.

Both are matches. Make sure to write passionate essays to match your stats and you are in!

Chance me??

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1553065-chance-me-ncsu-va-tech-u-south-carolina-clemsom-purdue-engineering.html

It would be a dream if UIUC engineering has 70% admission rate (or any engineering schools within the top 10). The average admission GPA is near 3.9. Mid 50 ACT is 31-34 according to the latest info. Although the ChemE in UIUC is not primarily in the engineering school, it is at the same competitive level as other engineering program. Note that you apply to a specific major at UIUC. Again, the data from the site you found is for the whole UIUC, not engineering program. It just listed the schools under engineering.
The admission stat for Purdue is likely to go up this year as they joined CommonApp and will attract more oos students to apply.

UIUC: Reach
Purdue: Reach (albeit at a lower level)

^ That makes more sense. ;)

Hey bud,

First of all, thanks for your input, it means a lot! Could you shoot me a link to where you found your stats? I can’t seem to find them. :(

Thanks!

@billcsho,

I found Purdue engineering admission stats and they said that the 50% of enrolled students in 2012 had a 27-32 ACT and 3.7-4.0 GPA. I still don’t know about UIUC though.

^ I visited both campus in July and got information there. For UIUC overall, the mid 50 ACT is 27-32 (SAT CR+M 1300-1440). For engineering, the mid 50 ACT is 31-34. Note that UIUC engineering is ranked #5 this year.

Note that the enrolled student stat is typically lower than the admission stat. Some of the top admitted students may choose Purdue as safety and then go to other schools. Nevertheless, the admitted stat is more important to applicants.

Catria is the best chancer on this board so I rest my case. Nevertheless I will bring out two old threads on CC.

Don’t forget to factor in the home state factor for any public schools when chancing. Even UMich accepts 40% from out of state, there is a clear benefit fot in states students. UIUC has 23% oos students, Purdue has 30%. UIUC engineering mid 50 ACT went up ftom 30-33 in 2009 to 31-34 currently.

Update: I was accepted into Purdue University back in January as an Early Action applicant. With UIUC, however, I did not apply, instead I applied to Alabama. Thank you everyone for your chances!
