Taking hardest possible courseload.

-We need to know specifically what your GPA is on a 4.0 scale or what your rank is. What you have given us right now means something. If I convert 94/100 to /4, I get 3.8, which is pretty low.
-Your SAT is sub level for Northwestern and Wash U
-Colleges don’t care if you were selected to have an article written about you. They care what you did and what you will bring to the college.
-I hope you have leadership positions
-SAT II scores are not impressive.

Good luck.

Thanks.

My school does not grade us on a 4.0 scale, but on the 100 scale. We don’t rank either but I’m definitely in the top 10% of my class. Also, we do not weight our averages so the 94 is unweighted.

And is a 3.8 really “low”? I know it’s no 4.0 but still. I think you’re being a bit harsh in some of your criticisms.

3.8 is not low, but it will slightly hurt you in the application process.

Alright. Anyone else?

Now to the stats.
-Sat is often superscored by students through score choice, so colleges often expect to see higher SAT scores than act scores. You can see this through the average SAT/ACT scores of people they accept.
-3.8 GPA is still significantly lower than a 3.9. Many colleges average a 3.9 and 3.8 is twice as far from 4.0 as a 3.9 is.
-I’m just saying in reality that I think you are at around the 50, 60 percentile in SAT II. I think that you would agree that isn’t impressive.

I also see no leadership positions in activities, that was a simple observation.

I’m the NHS President and Student Government Advisory Representative (I should have made this one clear)

SAT was taken in a single sitting. I think the point about colleges expecting higher SATs than ACTs is just speculation.

Any other insights?

Colleges don’t know whether you use score choice or not.

URM status gives you a pretty decent shot actually at most of these.

I didn’t think the SAT would be that much of a big deal. I doubt the colleges analyze this as intensely as you are, Wallrus, with all due respect.

I thought URM status’ influence on admissions was negligible.

Maybe they don’t look into them intensely, but his scores are off. Look at WashU’s statistics:

[Washington University Profile - SAT Scores and Admissions Data for Washington University in St Louis](Washington University: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA)

His cr+m is really low (since his writing is 800), which doesn’t help because most colleges focus on cr and m

Oh okay, I see what you mean.
I do not have the time to take it a third time, so I will just apply and see what happens, I guess.

Actually, I’ve given it some thought, and I’m gonna use my third try and hopefully get 2200+. Thanks, everyone.

Idk why all the low chances. I know a few URMs that have actually applied to these schools in the past and they have all gotten in with VERY similar stats to yours. I think your chances are very good. Good luck in the coming admissions cycle!

All I have seen walrus do is come on these chances threads and meaninglessly criticize the people. Opposed to what he says, you, in reality, have a decent shot at some of these schools. Let me just point out a few flaws in walrus’ logic.

“Colleges don’t care if you were selected to have an article written about you. They care what you did and what you will bring to the college.”

I have no idea what made him say this. Colleges DO care if you have an article written about you. It shows you distinguishing yourself as a student and it shows you can continue this in college.

“I get 3.8, which is pretty low.”

I don’t even have to say anything. You know how stupid and misinformed this is.

“I also see no leadership positions in activities, that was a simple observation.”

I, on the other hand, see several leadership positions that are good. Student government and NHS President? That’s not bad.

Ignore what he/she is saying about your low chances. You are an URM with good ECs who has a decent shot at these schools. However, I would advise you to study for the SAT and try and pull it up. Other than that, good luck!

Look up my history. I have told plenty of people they have a good shot. However, I find it pointless to say that they have a good shot and leave so I like to give feedback on how their application can be improved.

If you want to criticize my application the same way I criticize others, feel free to.

Thanks, corvenzo and kbolisetty!
