Chances at WashU

Hi, I was wondering what the likelihood of me getting into WashU next year if I applied ED. I’m a little under the top 10% of my class at a top public school in Virginia and have scored a 34 on the ACT. Disregarding extra curriculars and others aspects (I know these are very important too), what are my chances? I’ve heard that WashU values high test scores.

Based solely on your test score and the fact you’d apply ED, your chances are theoretically quite high. My friend got in RD last year with a 33. I applied this year RD with a 34. However, to protect its yield, WashU sometimes waitlists stellar applicants because they believe they will turn down WashU for a “better” school.

Hi! I’m the parent of a WashU Class of 2021 ED admitted student. The 34 ACT is definitely in the range of accepted students (son took old SAT and got 2290). Not knowing the rest of your information, it’s hard to gauge your chances. I would suggest looking at the WashU 2021 ED results thread to see how you compare.

One thing I would really emphasize is demonstrated interest. Attend the local information sessions and by all means schedule an on campus visit and interview. If you are contacted by a professor in a program of interest follow up as soon as possible. That’s probably what got my son in since his UW GPA was about 3.67, but course rigor brought up his weighted to 4.1 and he followed up with his interviewer and several professors.
