Chances for 2021

My daughter will be applying to Clemson this summer (Illinois resident). She has a 3.7 UW/4.46 W GPA. ACT: 26 (Superscore 28) she will retake the ACT in September. She is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society; Math Honor Society; English Honor Society; History Honor Society; Future Health Professionals of America; Student Council; Students Against Drunk Driving; 2 year Varsity Captain of her dance team; 4 year Varsity dancer; 7AP classes the rest are all honors classes; peer mentoring, athletic leadership council; over 100 volunteer hours at local hospital. Hoping to major in genetics.

Chances??

The Common Data Set or data extracted from it can be helpful in getting a sense of this for any college. At Clemson, this is produced by the office of Institutional Research.

Scroll down the home page (above) for “College Quick Facts” for the various colleges within the university. Then look through the tabs within that portion of the website. This should give you some sense of ACT or SAT scores and class rank.

I will say based on the out of state status, I would think you would need to be above the “average.” It is generally harder to get into Clemson from out of state than from in state. In general, Clemson does tend to be a “data driven” admission, meaning test scores and class rank are key.

Good luck and Go Tigers!

@osaycanuc thank you for that information it is very helpful! Do you happen to know anything about transferring from one college to another within the University? For example if you are accepted into the business college but decide at some point that you want to switch to the education college, what are the requirements to do that? I can’t find that information on the website.

I would try looking in the Academic Bulletin for the relevant college within the University, using the most recent year that is posted. I believe each school within Clemson establishes a minimum GPA an internal transfer student needs to be considered. https://www.registrar.clemson.edu/publicat/catalog/2015/2015catalog.pdf

Clemson admission is driven by GPA , test scores , rank and rigor . ECs are weighted very little in the general admission process. If your daughter is ranked in the top 10% of her class , has at least a 28 ACT and 3.5 GPA , she would be eligible for merit scholarships. Admission into different majors are more competitive with engineering, nursing and education being competitive . I strongly suggest that your daughter retake the ACT. Also, she needs to complete her application when it goes live on Aug 1 because housing priority is determined by application date, not acceptance date. Good luck to your daughter .Clemson has gotten quite competitive over the past few years , even for instate students . Many are waitlisted or offered The Bridge to Clemson program with stats that were sufficient for admission several years ago.

@osaycanuc and @carolinamom2boys thank you for your responses. It is all very helpful. I emailed one of the admissions counselors and she said that a high GPA and class rank can “make up” for a lowish ACT. She will definitely be retaking the ACT in September. Fingers crossed that she gets in to Clemson it is a dream school!

It will help for admission, but guidelines for scholarships are pretty strict. Good luck. I’m sure she can get it high enough. It helped my son to take timed practice tests online.

@carolinamom2boys thanks for all of your helpful advice. You have alot of great insight!

You’re welcome. We are instate and went through this last year at this time

The common data set posted above is out of date. This year Clemson’s acceptance rate dropped to 35-40%.

@PalmTree55 What’s your source ? Info from Clemson is posting about a 50%acceptance rate .https://www.clemson.edu/admissions/undergraduate/documents/breakfast-presentation.pdf

The Director of admissions, they haven’t released the 2016-2017 stats officially yet

So your post regarding 35 -40 % acceptance rate is from what year @PalmTree55 ?

Last year @carolinamom2boys, so for the 2016-2017 freshman class

The stats that we were given for that class ( my son was accepted to that class) by Clemson as part of his acceptance package were in 50% range @PalmTree55 .
