I would like for someone to give me their opinion since I feel I have a 50-50 chance at getting in. I am a sociology major and I know it's is very competitive. My GPA is 3.56, which worries me. I am transferring from a CA Community College in SF. I was a mentor for a middle school student in the mission district of SF. I was also a marketing associate for a non-profit photo book, published by Chronicle Books. In high school, I was a photo editor for school paper, peer tutor and did a vocation work experience program, while on independent study. I have been an assistant underwriter for about 8 years (began working while in HS). I also have a degree in photography (AA) and will have my second AA prior to transferring. I have all this, but it's a competitive major and my GPA is not THAT high. I also only took Sociology 1, no other soc classes, but some humanities that would benefit the sociology major. What do you think???

Don't worry yourself Lauren. I'd say you have a good shot. Your right, liberal Arts majors at Cal are hard to get into, especially with the rather large group of applicants this year, freshmen and transfers.

No one has seen so many applicants before, and it is hard to say if the upcoming budget cuts will affect the number of accepted applicants either. I wish you the best of luck!

If you've completed IGETC or the L&S breadth requirements, then I'd say you have a decent shot. It's really hard to judge because you're low of the hard factors and high on the soft factors. Difficult to tell where you'll land.

Yay! This is the right forum!

i think you have a very decent shot. just keep your hopes up!

lol Thanks for making sure I found my way Shrinkrap - took me long enough.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I wish I had known of this website before November, as it would have been very helpful! While looking at the stats, I begin to have mixed feelings and the UC's have made some decisions that confuse me, so I begin to wonder more about my chances. I don't have all the requirements met for state, just UC, so it will take me longer to transfer, which I really don't want...

"While looking at the stats, I begin to have mixed feelings "

Lesson number 2; Don't look at the stats!

Cali Trumpet---"No one has seen so many applicants before" are you seriouss???
howw do you knoww..........okay dis suckss

Each year the applicant pool generally gets bigger; it's not as bad as it seems.

I found the link for the news article uc berkeley published, which refers to the increase in applicants. There is also a link to look at this year's stats. There is an overall increase, but for transfer student it's up by about 6%, which isn't that much since there are about 20,000 or so transfer applications. I also noticed most of the increase in applicants come from the So Cal area. Looks like people want to get out of there. I hope this means something good for us No Cal people since there has been a 1.5% increase in SF compared to 5% in LA and 7.5% in Orange County.

Sorry. I was thinking the stats are refering to berkeley only. There is one document that shows the stats by campus. Interesting stuff...

Geographical area isn't a factor in admissions.

But what happened to lookin' after us So Cal folks!?

Just kidding. (;
