Chances for an Above Average Student please?

Hey CC, I'm Ryan, a senior in high school, and this is my first post here. I consider myself an ambitious above average student, and I would like to know my chances of admission into several colleges. I have a general idea of my chances, but I just want my ideas to be reinforced by other knowledgeable users.

Interested in:

University of Reno (instate)
University of Washington
UC Berkeley
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
UC Los Angeles
UC Riverside
Pepperdine University (maybe)
University of Southern California (maybe)

Grades & Classes:
-Top 5% of class (29/685)
-3.87 unweighted
-4.4 weighted

-3 years of Spanish
-AP Chem (1 on AP exam, but B 1st and A sem 2nd at least)
-AP Lang (4 on AP exam)
-Taking AP Calculus, AP Literature, and AP Government senior year)

Test Scores:
-1580 SAT first time (510 CR/510 M/560 W)
--currently scoring consistent 1700s on practice tests
--expecting 1800+ by admissions (roughly 550 CR/600 M/650 W)
-21 ACT first time

Clubs/Extras:

-Health Occupation Students of America: 3 years
-NHS: 2 years
-Hepatitis B Club: 2 years - cofounded (VP)
-Key Club: 4 years (Treasurer)
-Badminton Club: 3 years (1st VP, President)

-Piano awards
-School orchestra pianist (3 years)
-School choir pianist (1 year)
-Wikipedia and Wikiquote site volunteer administrator/bureaucrat

Hours:
-Planning on 200+ by admissions (50 or so medical related (clinic, walks, volunteer, etc.))

Other:
-Asian (mix of Filipino, Vietnamese, and Chinese)
-High School Magnet Pre-Medical Program (4 years)

I'd like to major in medicine. Of course this may change, but I feel it's the right direction for me. I'd like to do something with piano on the side too, not sure if I want to minor yet.

If you have any suggestions or questions feel free to leave a comment. Thanks in advance!! :)

Berkeley, Irvine, LA, San Diego, and USC are going to be way out of reach with your test scores now.

Edit San Diego & Irvine would be more in reach for you with an 1800 for sure though.

You’re not really “above average” with those SAT and ACT scores… hate to break it to ya. If you get those up, you can be!

Nice ranking and GPA though

How about Reno and UW? As I’m leaning more towards those two schools.

More opinions wanted!

With an 1800 SAT…
University of Reno you should get in.
UW is a match school.

I’d consider you an “above average” student if you earned an 1800+. I believe that puts you in the top 20%.

I’m very motivated to prepare for an 1800+ on the SAT so consider my chances with that score. I guess I considered myself “above average” because of my ECs and since 1500 is about the national avg. I know CC is known for overachievers. Haha.

UW or UNR are my preferred schools, UCs are considerable and at least something to try for, and UNLV is my safety. Still considering Arizona and Utah, but for now the above are my choices. Thanks again!

Rank is impressive… Everything else meh. UW is a match… Berkeley and UCLA will almost definitely not accept you (unless you have some sort of hook?) I think Reno is almost a safety. Unsure about the rest (I live on the east coast)

Congrats on your class rank and ECs! However, to even be considered at some of your schools (especially some of the UCs), you’ll need to raise your ACT by 10+ points. Not an easy thing to do.

I will take your actual stats rather than projected ones. Can you pay full-freight to an UC or to UWA?

UNR: Safety
Berkeley: High reach (at 1580)
USC: High reach
UCLA: High reach
UCSD: High reach
UWA: Reach
UCI: Reach
UCR: Match
Pepperdine: Reach

Try WPI…

Why isn’t UWA a higher reach when their acceptance rate is higher than the UCs?

Since I normally reserve a “high reach” verdict for the schools for which one has no chance, it appears you actually have a chance for UWA…
