I didn't want to clutter the title so the schools are : Berkeley, UCLA, Rice, and Wash U. Also, if you guys have any suggestions for a good comp sci school for early decision, don't hesitate let me know. Also, feel free to add any good comp sci private schools to my list. Should I try Ivy?

Lots of volunteer hours with clubs and other places

I create websites and make money off of them. I usually do this over the summer. Over the past 2 summers I've made around 2000 dollars and have put it towards summer school tuition and other things my family can't afford.

Started a CS class/tutoring non profit with my friends. I'm the website designer/ "CTO" and teacher/tutor for the classes.

Published some apps on the G+ store

Varsity badminton player 2 years

I run a pretty popular website that gets 100 or so views a day.

********* Should I retake the ACT? I really don't want to, but if it's in my best interest, I guess I could. I feel like i'm a bit below average for these schools in terms of stats and having a higher score might bolster my app a bit.

No need to retake ACT. You have a decent chance at all of them, but I would still put all of them in the low reach category for you. Have you calculated your UC GPA? That is a major part of your chance at UCB and UCLA.

@woandering Using rogerhub’s calculator, my calculated UC GPA is 4.13 or 4.08. I ended up getting a B in a summer class and boy did that screw me over. We don’t have honors at my school, but I definitely did not take the most rigorous schedule possible. The low reach makes a lot of sense because of my low GPA. I also see you are planning on being a Comp Sci major, what schools have you been looking at? I’m still looking for one more to add to my list.

I would definitely like to advise you on some college choices, if you’d provide some of your interests, including what “tier” or “hardness to get into” you want.

My primary interest is a solid applicable economics major, hopefully with concentrations in finance. I haven’t really focused on getting to the “best” CS schools, because while I’m interested in the CS, I just want to learn how to program, and learn how to keep learning (if that makes any sense), since CS is a fast developing field.

In any case, the schools on your list are great. I considered Wash U at one point, but there are others I prefer over Wash U, so I had to take that off my list, due to list size.

I’m looking at some decently ranking computer science schools at the moment. Schools along the lines of Rice/Wash U or “reach” schools. I wouldn’t mind having an extra match though, just in case. The primary reason I chose Rice/Wash U was because of their decently ranked programs along with their great financial aid. Honestly, if I had the money, I’d be applying to OOS publics (UIUC,UW,GaTech), but I don’t so they end up being way out of my family’s budget.

Ah, I see. CS is a very interesting and valuable skill so I don’t blame you for wanting to double major.

Yeah! Wash U is great and I really like what I’ve heard about them. I do know that they aren’t the best in Econ, so I understand your desire for other schools. One thing I do like about them is that they don’t require supplements which is a curse and blessing haha.

I apologize for the lackluster chance in your thread btw. I don’t know too much about liberal arts schools and Rochester, and CMC and Duke are like what everyone says they are “reaches for everyone.” I know someone who had like a 35, 4.5, and all that jazz and was waitlisted at CMC. I guess the best advice is just to keep getting good grades/ scores and write the best essay you’ve every written hah.

CalTech, MIT, Stanford are all pretty obvious reach CS schools. Have you looked at Harvey Mudd, though? Super strong science LAC. My term for it would be LSC (Liberal Science College instead of Arts), because instead of requiring a bunch of history and english, their general ed is mostly sciences.

Hi Oreo! Thanks for the chance. I’m just kinda worried my GPA is too low . My freshman year is bad so it brings my GPA down a bit more. Unfortunately, today was deadline for the ACT signups and it looks like it’s too late for for me now, unless I want to pay 75$, but I wouldn’t be surprised if every center is filled. Wash U superscores so I basically have a 34 there, and Rice puts it into consideration. I’ll keep it in mind though and I might take it in November. I’ll be writing your chance on your thread
