Chances for Brown, Wellesley, Princeton, Barnard, Columbia?

Hi everyone!
Some background: I'm a white female who currently attends a magnet high school with a focus on media/communications in NJ. There is a very competitive application process to get in.

GPA: 93.88 (our grades aren't weighted and we don't use a 4.0 scale)

SAT: 2110/1430
CR: 760
Math: 670
Writing: 680

SAT Lit: 730

ACT: 32 composite, 32 English/Writing
English: 36
Reading: 33
Math: 28
Science: 29

I only took the ACT once and may take it again.

ECs:
I've been racing soap-box derby cars since I was 7 year old and am nationally ranked, have been in national/international championships multiple times. I use my car as a platform to raise money for autism awareness and programs for autistic children in my hometown. So far I've raised $28,000.

My main concern stems from my transcript. For the most part my school doesn't offer AP classes, banking on the fact that all courses are taught at an honors level. AP Calc was added for this coming year, but since math isn't my strong suit and the Calc course I'll be taking instead will give me Seton Hall credits, I chose not to take it. I also won't be taking any language next year; my school only offers Spanish, which is routinely my worst subject, and I was afraid Spanish 5 would drive down my GPA. I took Spanish 4 last year, again given Seton Hall credits (the course actually counted for Seton Hall's Spanish 201 and 202), and I'm hoping that will suffice.

I believe I'll be applying as a Computer Science major... I'm still rather undecided but I fell in love with the subject through the courses I've taken. I may not be a typical STEM lover, but I see CS as more of a puzzle and I've really excelled in it so far. I'm also a very outgoing person, and feel as if that will help me advance quickly in the CS field. Not sure if that will help or hurt, given the fact that my math scores aren't the strongest. I'm torn between CS and something in the social sciences. Either way, I want a well-rounded liberal arts education.

Schools I'm looking at:
Wellesley
Brown
Princeton
Barnard
Columbia
U Chicago
Smith
Villanova
Swarthmore

I know that's a rather long list, if you could chance me for any of those schools I'd really appreciate it, thank you! Any advice would also be appreciated.

I also have a job working 20ish hours a week at a local pharmacy/convenience store, if that helps.

Pretty impressive activities, but nothing spectacular. Test scores are the main thing that need to be improved.

Wellesley - High Match / Low Reach
Brown - Mid Reach
Princeton - High Reach
Barnard - High Match / Low Reach
Columbia - High Reach
U Chicago - High Reach (Unless you write well)
Smith - Match
Villanova - Safety
Swarthmore - Low Reach

I’d expect you to get into either Barnard or Wellesley. If one of those is a top choice, I feel that both of those schools appreciate ED applicants.

If you want to, chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527524-chance-me-ivies-lacs-athletic-recruit-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thank you! I believe I will be applying to Wellesley ED, I fell in love when I visited.

As for U Chicago, I do write well. Do you think that makes a significant difference?

Additionally, I don’t think I’ll submit my SAT scores to any Ivys or U Chicago. My ACT is significantly better. I’ll probably submit both to all other schools, though.

Yes, being able to write well is important. Because their ComApp supplement is another essay, they clearly want good writers. Especially considering the type of essay: not “tell us about yourself”, instead they want you to be able to express yourself creatively.

Wonderful, thanks! I do love the U Chicago supplement essay questions, I just didn’t know how highly they weighted the essay.

Bump, anyone else, please?

GPA is strong but for these schools u should have more APs. Ec are awesome an really make u stand out to admissions committees. SAt is on the lower side (50% or less) for some of you top school choices, so try to raise it!

Wellesley match
Brown low reach
Princeton reach
Barnard match
Columbia reach
U Chicago low reach
Smith match
Villanova match
Swarthmore match

chance back!?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527194-brandeis-chance-will-apply-ed-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thank you so much! Just chanced you.

Bump bump :)

The effect of your GPA is hard to tell for someone who doesn’t know how many kids from your school typically get into Ivies/etc, but it’s probably not a huge problem for most colleges unless it’s lowered by multiple B-range grades. You might want to get your math score above 700 or whatever the equivalent is on the ACT – a 1430 is a bit low. But overall I think you have a decent shot, and if you’re a good writer that should help you with UChicago, especially if you portray yourself as a fun intellectual.

Wellesley: high match
Brown: high ish reach
Princeton: high reach
Barnard: high match
Columbia: high reach
U Chicago: low reach/reach
Smith: match
Villanova: not sure sorry
Swarthmore: high reach

And ED might really help you.

Safeties??

Wellesley: high match
Brown: reach
Princeton: reach
Barnard: match
Columbia: reach
U Chicago: low reach/reach
Smith: match
Villanova: safety
Swarthmore: reach

Thank you so much! I’m a bit all over the place with my safeties and potential majors at them. Emerson is definitely my main one at the moment. FIT’s marketing program is very appealing. Boston College. Wagner. I definitely need better safeties, that I know.

Bump bump

Bump bump.

Bump bump .

wow! I think you’re gonna get in Barnard, Smith, Villanova, and Wellesley; your grades are impressive. However Princeton is a reach; but you might be able to get into Brown with a creative essay  good luck! Chance me back?

Thank you! I agree, Princeton is a reach for anyone but my family wants me to give it a shot. I’ll chance you now.
