Chances for Columbia, Georgetown, Tufts, etc...

Since the applications will be going out soon, I just wanted to see what schools will be a decent shot. I figure I want to make sure they're not all a pipe dream before I start writing my supplement essays. Majoring in international relations.

Schools: Columbia, Georgetown Walsh School EA, Tufts, NYU, USC, Brown, Boston U, Bentley, Arcadia, UCSD

GPA: 3.6/4.0 (I'm really guessing here, my school doesn't do UW GPA, so I'm thinking it's in this area)
SAT I: 2170 (taking it one more time in Oct., but since I'm applying EA, this is what is currently it)
SAT II: World History 770, US History 740, Taking Lit in November
APs Already Taken: US History 5, Comparative Government 5, US Gov't 4 (self-studied), AP Lang 5, AP Stat (didn't take test)
Other classes: all honors, except for junior year physics and sophomore year pre-calc
Senior Year Courseload: AP Human Demographics, AP Econ (Macro/Micro), AP French, AP Lit, AP Calc AB, Hnrs Research Methods

AWARDS
AP Scholar with Honor

LANGUAGES
fluent in Mandarin, conversational in French, learning Spanish on my own

EXTRACURRICULARS
- competitive swimmer, club national level swimmer, 4 year varsity letter, top conference finishes, led team to state playoffs, etc.
- SADD, French club, NHS, etc... one in school club leadership position
- swim teacher & lifeguard summer job
- current affairs blogger on a well-known blog
- magazine editorial assistant
- national director of operations of outside society
- editor-in-chief of local newspaper

VOLUNTEER
- Special Olympics swim team coach for 5 years -- once a week for almost the whole year
- volunteered abroad twice, saved my own money for trips

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES:
- my father died a few years back, I was suicidal and had serious depression for a couple years (hurt my freshman & sophomore year grades)
- I have a rare heart condition that could lead to sudden death without warning -- had to deal with the possibility of death etc (found it in 8th grade/early freshman year -- contributed to low GPA in freshman year)
- daughter of a widow

That's basically exactly what I'll be sending to schools... with slightly more detail of course. Please let me know if I have an outside chance, haha, I know they're competitive. I don't have my heart set on one "dream" school, I'd actually be pretty content at all of them, although I would say my top choice is likely between Columbia/Georgetown.

I also have no hooks of any sort… I’m actually Asian which doesn’t help at all.

I’d say your a pretty good match for NYU and BU. Columbia, Gtown and Tufts seem like a Low-Reach but very possible. The swim stuff is definitely a plus, on top of Special Olympics. I don’t know much about the other schools so I can’t help you there ):

Chance me possibly? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1685944-chances-for-nyu-ed-bc-cmu-unc-chapel-hill-etc-for-finance-econ-major-also-input-on-my-list.html?new=1

bump?

I would honestly apply to Tufts EA, you’ll be in there if you do that. Don’t waste your EA on Columbia, Brown, Penn, Georgetown as you’ll be kicking yourself in the head if they say no. As an Asian, your chances are markedly lower than other ethnicities. A 2100-2200 would be lower than average for your group applying to the ivies. I’m going to recommend that you apply to all of them but not to waste your EA on an ivy league. A 3.6 is really low, sorry.

@PSC2IVY Does Tufts have EA? I was under the impression that they have ED, I wasn’t planning to apply early to any Ivies

I apologize, you are correct. Tufts has ED. It really is a wonderful school and among the schools in the US News, the difference in quality is razor thin. If I were you, I would dead-lock my spot at Tufts by putting in a early decision, :-)

BTW, Tufts is more respected than NYU and USC. At least, academically. If you want a thrill of a four years, those two schools might fit you better. Columbia, Georgetown, and Brown are above Tufts only by reputation. I’m not going to tell you what to do, I am just going to say what I would do haha.

@PSC2IVY Thank you for your help! will think about it :)
