I realize I am not overly qualified but here it goes:

GPA
Freshmen-2.4(awful I know)
Sophmore-3.5(much better)
Junior-4.14

My school does not offer AP classes, and only offers honors classes in Junior and Senior year.

Next year I am taking all dual enrollment classes at the local community college. I should do well so I am expecting an overall GPA of around 3.4 or 3.5 depending on how the weighing of dual enrollment classes work.

EC:
Varsity Cross-Country -Fresh&Soph
Varsity Track and Field -Fresh&Soph
Basketball -Soph

Scores:
ACT-23 composite
I know this is not up to par. I studied for the English portion and brought it up 6 points so I think I will be able to do that for the rest of the subjects.

I'm taking SAT II in the fall. US History and Biology.

I will have excellent recommendations.

Do you think the admissions officers will recognize maturity increase through high school? And what can I do to increase my chances. Sorry this is so long. Thanks :)

Your GPA and ACT score are really out of Duke’s range.

Here are some things you can do to improve:
-Get a 4.0 (unweighted) 1st semester senior year
-Get your ACT score to 34+
-Get 750+ on your SAT II’s

Questions for you to answer:
-What’s your class rank? (if this is high, then your low GPA really won’t matter)
-What is your main extracurricular activity?
-What are you really passionate about?

I am around 12 out of 50ish. My main ECs are Youth for Christ and Student Council. I’m very passionate about politics, I plan to be a political science major.

GPA and standardized tests are by far the two most important factors in college admissions. Granted, your upward trend in GPA is a good thing, but you are not what Duke is looking for.

…I don’t see it happening. Just being honest.
I’m saying this because of your rank, test scores, and GPA.

The median for acceptees on the ACT is a 32. It’s going to be incredibly hard to pull up a 23 to a 32.

You’re not in the top 10% of your class, or even the top 20%. According to College Board, 9 out of 10 applicants who got in were in the top 10% of their class. That extra 10% includes recruited athletes, people from very poor families, and minorities. Unless you’re one of those three, you’re probably going to be denied admission.

That said, there’s plenty of good schools that would accept you. Duke is really for the best of the best, it’s just a step below the ladder compared to Ivy League schools.

Sorry I don’t think you have a good chances for Duke. Duke is very very selective schools. There are many schools that will accept you though. Good Luck.!
