<p>Your SAT score will hurt your chances. Try to re-take it, and spend a LOT of time working on your essay. You need personality to shine through.</p>

<p>Applying ED is probably a good idea in your case because WM is binding ED. Their yield is pretty good overall but ironically suffers from good IS applicants also being prime material for UVA, so they really are helped by the ED applications. It can make the difference when you’re borderline (although you could also just get deferred to RD - but it’s worth a shot!).</p>

<p>W&M does not consider the writing portion of the SAT so your 1400 score falls in the high end of their 1260-1470 SAT range, plus you are in-state and male, which makes your chances of getting in higher than the average. Your grades are a little low but since it’s one class (Latin) that pulled you down its probably fine. It looks like you have a good chance. Good luck!</p>
