hey, I'm a senior in ca. wondering about my chance

ACT: 31 or 2100 sat

AP's: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

GPA:3.27
ugh...

ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend's company and also had a job there too

Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be very good- on two hardships that have come down on me the last 2 years, and my dealing w/ them.

Teacher Recs: better than great

Counselor Rec: great

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic

Gender:M

Also: Took 3 summer courses at a local comm. college

thank you very much

There is no Emory school of science. Emory really pays attention to demonstrated interest, so make sure you do that.

bump..........................................

are you taking a challenging course load this year? Emory will want to see that you're trying to boost that GPA with difficult APs/IBs etc.. Your residency and ethnicity won't hurt you though...

oh yeah all of my classes are honors/ap's, except for religion.

ok i have two really quick questions.

how much help would the Aff. Action + an ED app give me? would it give me a substantially better shot at being accepted?

and

if you get denied from Emory, do you automatically become considered for Oxford? or are they two different apps?

oh and in predicting the chance, % would be soo greatly appreciated. thanks.

not sure about ur chances, but then i heard if u get denied from emory, the college sends u an information brochure about oxford. and they require identical application.
and plus it's kind of hard to give chances, your school doesn't rank? then how high is your actual gpa compared to classmates? would you say it's in top 25%? if it is, then i have a good shot at emory. i think you'll make it to oxford at least if you boost up your gpa in the senior year. try to do volunteer service whenever u can.

damn i always forget to put in my volunteer stuff.

thanks nogueira. so you have get an application to oxford if you're denied? so would you recommend that ED is prob. best then?

bump for emory and oxford chance

ED to emory and if u don't make it, inform emory that u want to get into oxford instead. u have nothing to lose. if u get denied from emory, as far as i know, emory advises u to apply for oxford instead (kind of like waiting system alternative no offense meant)

mm i kinda like that plan...

boy i hope this all star game goes until the 18th inning. see bud selig squirm

oh and bump

Hmmm, your gpa seems really low for Emory. I'd say 50% chance.

Btw, the loss of Baron Davis is going to hurt a lot. I have no idea why they signed Corey Maggette when they already have Stephen Jackson, Al Harrington, and the new rookie dude Randolph from LSU.

well from what i'm hearing, we might get rid of one of those forwards (cough harrington cough) for a pg, like kirk hinrich. and randolph is a pf. corey maggette was signed basically b/c his point production makes up for the loss of baron. in addition, i hear that we are def. looking to get more point guards b/c we need more depth there.

btw can you guys chance me for oxford of emory, and not just emory please? i dont' want to sound like an ass by asking that, but i'm just really curious about my chances there too. (matches, reaches, safeties, etc.)

I think you will make Oxford. Your SAT scores are very good compared to other Oxford Applicants I'm sure.

I thought Emory didn't need a teacher rec.

bump and does anyone know if oxford looks at your first sem. senior year grades?

le bump for oxford of emory

I have not heard of anyone who got rejected from Oxford if that makes you feel better... but as long as your essays are strong and you make yourself seem as a good candidate, you should have no problems getting accepted to Emory College.

Good luck to you and just do the best you can so you don't regret it ^^
