Chances for hispanic texan girl?

Yeah at first I was just mad because I really didn't want to apply to UT so I was like "ok, time to make this super stupid."

Problem: What dress I should buy to wear to homecoming?
Hypothesis: The black dress will cause more guys to look at me.
Definition of Operational Terms: Guys-uhh, males. Look-uhh, direct their eyes in my direction (like that redundancy?!) Dress-the thing I'm wearing.
Materials: myself, a crowd of boys, the dresses in question
Procedure: 1. Put on a dress 2. Parade around 3. Count how many guys look
Data: So like, 15 people looked when I was wearing the red dress but only like 3 looked when I was wearing the black dress, and maybe like 8 looked while I was wearing the purple one but like...
Analysis: The red one wins, duh.
Conclusion: This essay like relates to like science because like I used the like scientific method for like a real-life like really crucial issue because like it's Homecoming and like it was important and like science is important so like yeah, that's what I did.

I seriously wish I could have turned that in.
And no, I don't say like THAT much.

ROFL
That's great.
Very deep.
But since we're guaranteed admits to UT
I was asking my friend that if we wrote BUTTCHEEK on all of our essays if they would still have to accept us.
Maybe not to our first choice major, but they'd still have to accept us, right? lol

but are u guys guranteed to any program? even the one mentioned above?

hmmm guarantees? what if u wrote on ur essay, "this university sucks. texas is too hot" or something? would they have to accept u anywayz?

Hahahaha. Yeah, they'd have to.

no, we're not necessarily guaranteed to our first or second majors.
we're guaranteed to UT in general.

hahaha poor admission officers...
but being the nerds we are,
i'm sure we won't do that ;]

Of course not...I would never be brave enough to actually mess up an application like that unless it was to like...ITT Tech or University of Phoenix Online (which I'm pretty sure don't even have applications).

Everybody on this forum hates me because I'm URM! We can delete that part and pretend I'm white if you want.

That's their problem.
Pfft no, be proud that you are a URM.
You have an advantage and that's great.

The same people who say they don't like URMS talk about their SAT scores or prestigious awards. Similarly, others may hate them for it, but they are proud anyway.

I don't like the concept URM's because I feel affirmative action is immoral at best. That put aside, your odds seem good.

lol omz ur analogy doesn't really work. those ppl who talk about their scores and awards actually EARNED THEM, they weren't born with them programmed into their chromosomes.

j07, what nationality are u?

As an URM, you have great chances.

Pk, I don't think that my entire advantage is "built into my chromosomes" because I have had to work for my grades and SAT scores the same as anybody else. While I am no 2400 applicant, a score with double 800s on two sections (even though the writing doesn't really count) isn't really skating by with my ethnicity to save me. Similarly, my top 2% rank wasn't exactly easily come by. So while my credentials may not qualify me with chances at Princeton without my URM status, it's not as if I'm going to get in with an 1800/2400 score and a top 30% rank. If I was a rich Hispanic kid who had never had to work for anything, then I would feel guilty about marking myself Hispanic, but such is not the case. My parents have not and will not ever understand that colleges are not equal, that speaking English perfectly gets you somewhere, that sometimes it is better to accept advantages and charity then to be proud, that some people are simply rascist, etc.

And I am Mexican, by the way. I'm not one of the people posting on College Admissions every five minutes asking if the fact that my grandfather was from Spain qualifies me as Hispanic.

I understand why people dislike a URM and there are things about AA that I don't agree with even though it may help me, but I think it's a little silly that people are choosing to dislike me as a person because of it.

We don't know you as a person,we only know you as a list of stats, so no one here dislikes you as a person. Good luck, you don't need our help.

pk-- look at it this way.

for example, some people can't have the same opportunities to intern in surgery like i do, because they don't have the resources or don't know how to get one. Because of the school I go to, my internships are THROWN at me; my teacher finds them for me, sets them up, etc. I also don't need to spend that much personal time learning about medicine because it is incorporated into my classes.

Back when I was good at the violin, I seriously never practiced. Maybe about an hour a week at the most. But I knew a girl who practiced for about two hours per night, and she was the worst player in our orchestra.

So maybe they are not BORN with these advantages in their chromosomes but they still have unfair advantages.

what is URM? under represented minority?

yes .

I'm not against unfair advantages- the world isn't fair. I'm against manufacturing more of them.

lol but the thing is, those skills are commendable and are impressive. being born with a certain skin color doesn't say much about the person himself, and shouldn't necessarily set him apart

j07, you will get in for sure. Well, 90% sure. And nobody dislikes you as a person, they are just ****ed off at aa in general and you are the person they are taking it out on. Don't worry about it and good luck!

I don't have a problem with URMs getting boosts in life. I just have a problem with them geeting boosts at my expense.
